Access cab enough?

Found a used ‘15 access cab 4x4 within driving distance im considering taking a look at. Anyone go with access cab and later regret it and wish theyd have gone with a double cab? I only occasionally carry passengers. Decent room tho for groceries,suitcase, gym bag, etc ?

 

I regretted buying an access cab. 2 years later traded for a double cab.

Having two kids was the main reason. Access cab was uncomfortable for passenger in the front after awhile because the seat had to be up further.

Otherwise I would have kept it.

 

Mine is a 2019 Access cab Utility long bed, no jump seats in back and loads of in the cab storage, love it! If you need to carry more than yourself and a passenger I would get a double cab.

 

I had no choice in 2016 the Canadian O/R was only AC.

I hated it, it was really annoying loading groceries in parking lots, and the odd occasion where I needed the 3rd seat was tight as hell.

I ended up getting a plain reg cab long box pickup after for pure utility. Just make sure you know what you want it for.

 

Have owned my AC since new, 5+ years. It does 98% of everything I need it to do. If I must carry a passenger, I have other vehicles, or they can just be uncomfortable, it's not a taxi. I can secure cargo in the bed with a tonneau cover. As stated above, if you NEED passenger space, get a DC, otherwise the AC will probably serve you well.

 

I have an A/C.
Wish I had DC.

The A/C is only really good for storage.
It’s not at all comfortable for any one other than small children.
Loading groceries in a parking space is a pain with how the back doors open.

When I do it again. I’m going DC.

 

I have an access cab and it's the perfect vehicle for me. Short wheel base with a long bed. Storage is great, I can fit my dog, camera backpack, other storage bags (duffel bag etc) plus a friend in the front seat. Without my dog I can stock up for a month for me and a friend and still have room in the cab. The under seat storage, though seemingly small makes for a decent amount more room and I bought Dewalt tool boxes that fit perfectly under the seat ends and still have room in front of them for my cargo net, 6T bottle jack, jumper cables, multiple (no idea why) snow brushes and my camera tripod. If you don't haul passengers I'd say go for the access cab.

 

I’ve had 3 Tacoma’s, all have been ACs, never had any desire for bigger, but I very rarely need to carry passengers. AC seems much more useful for storage than DC.

 

I love my access cab. Never needed anything else. I actually got it because the dealer told me the 4x4 trd off road wasn’t available in regular Cab. Now I am glad I got the ac instead.

 

I’ve had mine for 5 years. The wife and tools ride around fine. We recently added a car seat and a baby to the house and they ride around decently. A double cab would be better but it works.

 

I love my AC. In fact, for the past few years I only searched for an AC. Growing up I had ridden in the back of 1st gen ACs, and didn’t like it one bit. Plus the 2nd gen (no actual data) has like 30% more legroom for passengers in the back. And you can open the door to the rear.

Shorter wheel base, grocery getting is fine as long as it’s not more than 6 bags (but there’s also a truck bed?), plenty of dog room, but if you have kids I would go with a DC.

 

I kind of regret not getting an AC

 

Why is that?

 

AC is the only way to get a 6’ bed w/ MT.

I personally couldn’t live without both.

 

I loved my Access Cab and would prefer another one. However we won’t be getting another Tacoma for 2-3 years and we plan on kids in 3-5 so... Double Cab Long Box is the only option for me now. That said, I would go with an Access Cab (1st Gen or 2nd) in any other scenario, hands down no hesitation.

 

I've had several access cabss. Perfect for my needs, plus I think they have the best overall look. They sure don't last long on a sales lot.

 

Access Cabs were never designed with adult rear passengers in mind. If that's in your plans, get a DC. Though it can be done, it ain't pretty.
Mine serves my needs perfectly. Dry, secure storage, SWB, LB, and the best aesthetics of all Tacos D ). And still room for the occasional wife, dog, other, haulage.

 

Had regular cab Sonoma.

Moved to AC Tacoma. More secure storage is great. Occasionally haul a grand for short distances, no problem (tallest is 5'6")

I have no need for a double cab.

But only you can figure out how you will use the vehicle.

 

Access Cab worked for me, never regretted it. people hauling duties got relegated to the family sedan. I liked the 6' bed. Felt I did not lose too much space with the crossbed toolbox. I think the access cab looks better than the double cab.

 

Ac is the prefect side. I only carry passengers every now and then and people fit fine. I’m 5’11” 230 lbs and I’ve fit people over 6 foot pushing 300 behind me. Also have taken people in the back in 10 hour road trips with no complaints. Only down side is my pup is big so he don’t really fit in the back because of the boxes. Also on camping trips I load the back to the roof no issues.
