Got the roof rack from the 4Runner painted and installed. My friend powdercoated the metal for me. I painted the plastic with fusion paint. Made some aluminum backs for the inside. I want to make some fishing rod holders to hang from them soon.

That’s a really sweet deal! I paid $1600 used for mine (Snugtop Rebel). No windoors but it has a fold down front window, Yakima tracks and I think the reinforced roof.

How many have bolted down their topper and how many have sealed it with something besides foam material? I bought 6 new 7/16" bolts for mine to replace the 4 I have holding it down right now. I used a 2" wide foam gasket material and it's shifted on both sides directly above the wheel wells. I only have the topper 4 cornered right now and will drill new holes in the middle for the remounting. I have some surface rust to touch up on the sides from when there was a plastic bedliner in it, too. And while the topper is off I will try to correct the peeling clear coat off of the top of it.

But my main concern is if anyone has ever used a caulk type material to seal it up? I bought several tubes of Liquid Nails Roof Repair to try and lay a bead all around with and then bolt the entire thing down. I'm thinking that the foam may have settled and allowed the seal to not stay 100% in some spots. The roof repair material should allow me to bolt this thing down solid and help with the securing once it's dry as well.

Id really be hesitant changing the "installation" procedure from what the factory recommends.

No one wants that cap flying off MORE than the manufacturer.

As for water proofing, my LEER came with rubber gasket like moulding on the bottom where it meets the bed side tops.

The installer ran a 1/4 in foam pad on the front top rail under my rear window and clear caulked the front rear bed corners and that was it. 4 bolt style mounting brackets that are secured to the factory inner bed rails.

Mine has been 4 bolted with 7/16" bolts for close to 10 years. When the topper place finished up with the original install it was with weeny aluminum clamps. The last 2 years I've driven 2200 mile round trips into deep West Texas and a few into Carlsbad. Survived countless hours on i20 in some of the worst winds in America. She'll hold...better than yours probably.

I had considered a rubber gasket but never found one I liked.

FFS, man. No need to get upset. All is calm.

The foam slid some in the middle where there is nothing holding the topper.

I have heard of several people who had the topper shift while on washboard roads. Im planning to add two extra of the factory clamps for a total of 6. Im sure the 4 factory ones would be fine for on road use but if the cap can shift around offroad then it cant be that secure especially in an accident.
