ive managed when i had it and it wasnt a huge ordeal but its more annoying when im not going on a trip. Although now i dont drive it much anymore unless going on a trip so it may not be as big of a deal. It never made me feel like i was going to tip doing anything but it got annoying in its own ways.

Dont be too fooled, i still look at RTTs often to see what i'd like but then fall back to enjoying the ground tent and my air cot.

I actually figured it out by reversing my existing bike mounts so the rear wheels face forward, allowing me to slide the RTT further forward on the rack. Bikes seem to ride just fine that way so I think it’s good to go

    Ya you do!
A couple of buddies and I have a page too. Just for the fun of it.
I love seeing other people's builds and adventures. But I find it ridiculous where this whole overlanding thing is going. You don't need $20k of parts to drive down a gravel road and camp on top of a rock.

I would much rather have a camper trailer but right now I can't. I usually travel 5 hours out of town to camp with friends and family. Hauling a trailer would be a major pain, so I go a RTT.
I love adventuring in the taco but I have other buggies for the real offroading lol

Dumb question for you all; we're going to a family reunion this summer where we're only taking my wife's minivan (2016 Sienna). I would like to have my RTT there so that I know I'll have a little space that is my own and be able to sleep regardless of what else is going on.

Has anyone ever put their tent on factory roof bars for a minivan, or specifically the Sienna? I find pictures that show a tent on a Sienna, but I am finding conflicting information about whether the factory roof rack is ok or not. This would be a one time thing, drive each way of 3.5 hours, and then 2 people sleeping in a Tepui Kukenam 3 (ruggedized if it matters) for a few nights, then as soon as we get home the tent would go right back on my truck. Thanks.

That's the problem I'm having-- finding conflicting information. It looks like dynamic rating of 165 pounds for the system- so it should be fine. But it is fairly close to tent weight. I would only have a couple people in the tent so it isn't like it would be supporting a big weight even when unfolded.

Another reason my wife and I are selling our travel trailer. It’s a pain in the ass to set up and tear down camp, horrible fuel consumption taking it somewhere. If something happens while out I’m getting two vehicles towed or paying for wasted space at an rv campground, yeah air conditioning and a full kitchen is nice but we literally use it once a year for 4-5 days because there is literally no hey lets go camping tonight to it

I've never seen anybody saying you "need" anything to overland/wheel and camp. :notsure:
Other than a vehicle, of course. Yeah, the big shiny expensive merch gets all the buzz. Happens in literally every hobby. Part of the fun, though, is getting new toys and gadgets

Anybody take a pizza delivery in their RTT? We were cleaning it out and chillin when the delivery guy arrived. He was a bit surprised lol

Curious if you have a plan/solution for an awning. It want a 180 or maybe even a 270 but it looks like the tent when open hangs over too far on the driver's side to allow an awning to get by. Any room to shift the tent slightly further right to get an awning around it?

Is anyone running there RTT on an UptopOverland Bravo rack? I had mine mounted on my KBVoodoo high rise bars, but may consider that for mtn bikes and a Thule box with the tent up top for an upcoming family trip to the White Mountains in NH

Just a bunch of old crap
I'm done with soft-sided side-folding RTTs, and my Alu-Cab is mounted full-time on my truck. No regrets.
