US EPA would kill it with the DEF.

The aesthetics look like a cross between a 3rd gen Taco and a Ford Ranger.

I'm not in the market for a mid-size diesel but it'd be nice to have the option.

I could see the front end being reworked to resemble a 5th gen 4Runner. That would be a start the fenders and wheel arches still need some work if this going to become a 4th gen Tacoma.

Dumb question: What is the DEF? How does the Colorado get away with a turbo-diesel option?

That is a LOT of branding on the back end. Mud flaps, tail lights, tail gate, bed sides...

I prefer the tacomas shape over the hilux. But the diesel + manual option is cool.

Squirts gas into exhaust to burn it again and recycles air so it goes through cylinders sometimes more than once.

It doesn’t. It’s routinely bricked on the side of the road in derate due to one or more of the many ghost codes that plague US Diesel engines, like poor Def quality, low pump pressure, nox sensor faults, or it could be a good old fashioned Def crystal clog in any part of the system.

Def is urea that releases ammonia which reacts with nox. It’s metered into the exhaust stream.

Toyota can do it with the Hilux, why not with the 3rd gen Tacoma? (notice the SRS airbag notation)

You’re talking about hydrocarbon after treatment, which doses fuel (not gas), for the DOC/DPF. DEF is dosed into the SCR system. Also I think there’s some EGR logic thrown in there.

It really is fascinating that that is a "rugged" look in the entire world except the United States. Like the Tacoma still looks more burly and aggressive than that. Just interesting how distinct American design language is compared to literally everywhere else on the entire planet.

Because in the US the EPA strictly regulates oh shit handles, essentially crippling them. Without these regulations, these grab handles are “gross polluters”

Looks too much like a Ford Ranger, but the turbo diesel + MT option is cool.

If given the option between this and my Turd gen I think I’m still sticking with my Tacoma.

Yup. To similar to the Ranger. Not aggressive looking at all.
