I threw my Hansen’s away. :anonymous:

The 1/4” shafts wouldn’t fit through my Craftsman sockets, which drove me nuts. Also, like you said.. ton of dead space. I looked around for a couple months to see if there was a setup I found that wasn’t outrageous that I really loved and didn’t find one, so I bought the black HF organizer trays and they’re doing duty now.

Later when I ordered some Tekton impact sockets they came with a twist lock rail which I really liked. If I had to redo everything I might be inclined to go that route if the rail was magnetic or wide enough not to tip over in the drawer.

I just bought the extra sockets to fill in the gaps in my Hansens. Not sure when I'm gonna need a 27mm socket, but I have one now!

Speaking of aircraft, when my father graduated from high school in ‘41 he went to work for Schweitzer Aircraft before joining the Army Air Corps. The socket wrench set he was required to buy included 1/2, 3/8, and 1/4 drives with ratchets, extensions, breaker bars, and even a set of 3/8 flex sockets. Some sockets are down to 32nds. I asked him once what he paid for it, knowing what just the flex sockets would cost today. He said “a week’s pay, $40.”

And since you’re a guy, I can say “nice rack” without getting slapped. I’m ordering some. Thanks.

Thanks. No, I had a local company tackle this project. I'm glad I did. Evidently the builder of this home had sealed the concrete. First set was preparing the concrete by grinding...a 3 hour process.

Nice. OK, Story time. I had the privilege and honor of working next this this guy, James Flanagan, RIP, 101st Airborne into Normandy, The Bulge, and Market Garden, and later of the Cleveland Air Races where he raced T6s. A&P extraordinaire. His hands were like steel clamps as an old man. He could put you on the ground with a simple handshake, and have you doubled over with a quick finger jab to the ribs, all first-hand experiences I've had.

He's the one holding the flag:

Veterans day a couple decades ago.

And a typical race team work day at the hangar.

In the pits at Reno, me, de-cowling between every race, usually hot as fuck:

But I digress. Jimmy's toolbox was sacred. He had shit in there I'd never seen before in my life. Wrenches he heated up and bent so it would work better for a certain task. Wrenches with ground down exterior heads so you could get them on really tight areas with little room to work, like out exhaust pipe system nuts, for one.

    Typical exchange:

Jimmy: "Goddammit, put the lid down on my tool box you fucking college boys!"
Us, quietly to each other: "...so all the tools don't blow away!"

RIP, Jimmy. I was too young and stupid to understand what I had when I had it before me. :(

GRRRREAT story and photos, Horst. What a privilege to have known Mr. Flanagan. BTW, that plane doesn’t look like a Texan to me. Bearcat?

Lol....A 27mm will fit the steering box on a 1972 Audi 100LS with right hand drive, and the pitman arm will be left hand thread...LOL.

Now after looking at everyone's garage, it is inspiring me to clean up my garage. I also need a bigger box!

I’ve never liked the idea of hand tools mounted on a wall. I prefer nothing on my walls actually but I do have some battery chargers and straight edges hung up.

My (ex) wife once threatened to take a picture of my shop and send it to Brookstone for the cover of their Hard to Find Tools catalog.

    So opinions welcomed.

    25x25x10
    2/12 roof pitch.
10x10 door, have debated jumping to 12x10.

So 1 door or 2 doors. Pros of 1 door is I can use that front of the building for high storage and shelving. Cons of 1 door is I only have 1 bay. Vice versa if I have 2 doors sure I’ve got 2 bays, but I lose that storage space. Decisions.

    also single slope or traditional?

2 doors and modular shelving of some sort? is it possible/cost effective to frame a 2nd door for easy addition down the road?

Seems like two doors leaves you open to do either idea inside as your needs change. What was the price for this building with two doors? Looks good.

What is the Price of that building with one 12 X 10 door? Are you doing a metal building?
