I've been so busy remodeling the inside of my house the past few months that I didn't have time to get my garden up and going until now. The weeds had pretty much taken over but I got the raised beds all cleared out, pumpkin patch behind tilled and yesterday I got a half yard of compost, mixed it in and got everything smoothed out. Don't mind the weeds in the gravel, I will get to those at some point...

Since I am getting such a late start I will probably just plant a little it of lettuce and a ton of cucumbers so that I can max out my pickle production. I went through my stock of pickles quickly this year and am at the point of rationing now, only a couple jars left until fall.

Can someone tell me if I can get away with using Tomato cages for pole beans and cukes?
They are just starting now and are still seedlings
I still have some time to prepare, but have extra cages

thinking about a section of hog panel about 6’ y’all or so . I don’t think I have the space for a tee pee style set up in those boxes. I have the seedlings along the long side of the boxes

Hog fence would work. You'd have to brace it though, so the plants didn't pull it over once they started to set. The beans not so much, but a healthy cuke plant gets heavy.

It’s how I’ve done my cukes for years. Have a 16’ panel and a shorter maybe 5-6’ panel this year. Did pole beans that way as well a few years but hooped two 16’ panels side by side if that makes sense. Pole beans will grow 7’ or more so they would just grow up and over the hoop. Like has been said stake the panels. I use t posts and zip tie the panels to the posts.

I bought a bunch of the collapsible tomato cages a few years back on sale at the end of the season. Open, they are about 1.5’ wide. I’ve used them for cucumbers and they do ok.

image.jpg Loads of tomatoes, beans already, corn is tasseling and on our 3rd zucchini. Already removed the cabbage family greens. Have to plant some more fall harvest stuff soon. We have about 10 months of growing season here.

Wow, 10 months! In good years we have 4 months frost free. Your corn is tasseling, and mine is only two inches tall.

Sacramento California so my wife sent me this about our season. When to Plant Vegetables in Sacramento, CA. On average, your frost-free growing seasonstarts Feb 10 and ends Dec 4, totalling 298 days.

Plus we have a greenhouse where we started plants in January.

Getting some mildew on my squash. I wish it would be more low maintenance like the cucumber, lol.

I think if you trim lower leaves you can get good air flow around those plants. Moisture needs to be controlled. I had same problem last year
