To be considered a plank owner you have to commission the ship.

22 years active duty in the US Navy (1985 -2007) and a plank owner on USS MAHAN DDG 72.

    Also served on
    USS RENTZ FFG 46,
    USS GONZALES DDG 66
    USS LABOON DDG 58
    USS STOUT DDG 55

Four WEST PACs and three Med cruises, initiated as a shellback in 1987.

I still go to sea on ships in the DOD civil service.

No retired Navy or service indicators on my truck though. Loved my time in but never felt the need to put it on my trucks.

Yes but on my 4runner. Best pic I got kinda far away. Lawlz

tried putting the flag on both back windows, went thru about 8 stickers. Tried to put them evenly on both windows and couldn’t do it. Finally gave up after ordering multiple sets over and over.

Wow, can’t imagine being stationed on 5 separate ships. 1 Ship for me. 3 years on board with 2 long deployments was enough for me lol.

I enjoyed sea duty. Why join the Navy and not want to go to sea and travel?

My first four deployments were before email and satellite tv. Those were some very long cruises.

Would have definitely went to sea again had I stayed in. Started on shore duty (NAS Lemoore) and then to the USS Boxer and finished at NAS Fallon. Our rate (AC) had a 5 year shore 3 year sea rotation when I was in. So yes I liked to travel and saw a lot of the world when on the Boxer. Places most ships never went....

I have been around the world riding Navy ships and been to 6 of the 7 continents, I really enjoyed my time in but it's a lot different now in the Navy, I see it when I go to sea as a civilian. I dont think I would love being in now as much as I did then.

Three things took the "fun" out of being in the Navy...
    Tailhook
    USS COLE bombing

I loved being on deployments. Did two Mediterranean and one NATO float. Shellback and Blue Nose certified. I got to see a lot of this planet we call home. No regrets whatsoever.

Would have love to have done a Med cruise. Both ours were westpacs out of San Diego straight to the Persian gulf to drop the Marines off in Kuwait. Can’t complain though because we hit some awesome ports to and from. Going through the strait of Hormuz was interesting in the protocol that had to be followed. Again looking back, what an awesome time!!

Med cruises are nice because you see so many countries in a short amount of time but you dont save money like you do on a Westpac.

It only takes about a week to get to the Med from the East Coast. My 2000 Med cruise hit 19 different ports just in the Med. Out for a week then in a new port for a few days, some were working ports but most were liberty ports. I was burning through money LOL....

I've been in the Army for 10 years now and for some reason I dont like to display that on my taco. I have nothing against it and maybe it will change when I retire. Just might get me a license plate and a big ole sticker for the back. Merica :oldglory:

I like that hoodscoop lightbar, where did you get it and how did you install it? I haven’t really seen a whole lot of tutorials online and I’ve been interested in buying one of those lightbars for such a long time haha.

Yeah I saved a lot of money to. I was the one who took the free MWR trips while in port to go do cool things like go ride camels in the UAE, 4wheelin guided trips in Land cruisers in Dubai, scuba diving in Majuro, Great Barrier Reef in Austrialia to name a few. Others wanted to get off the ships and drink them selves stupid. Nothing wrong with that but I wanted memories and sightseeing. And still got to drink at night. Win win lol

20190517_161102.jpg 20190623_114345.jpg I served from 87 to 91 Army M1 Tank gunner. Got out after Desert Storm. Glad I served. I currently have a son Serving in the Navy as SeeBee and another son serving in the Army as a BlackHawk mechanic. I am more proud of them than, that I served.

That’s awesome that your sons followed in your footsteps! I’m sure there is a little Army vs Navy rivalry there. Lol

Ahhh yes the Hercules. Worked C130s a lot when I was a controller at Reno airport. The national guard C130 base right there on the airport. Usually always came back with an emergency with an engine out lol. Cool airplanes though.
