Just a thanks to all who posted good information in this and other threads about the secondary air pump problems. About a week ago the check engine/trac off lights came on on my 2012 double cab with 63k miles. I checked the code - P2442. Reset it with my scanner, and didn't make it 1/2 mile before the lights came back on.

I made an appointment with the dealership and limped in on a Wednesday. The air pump and the other parts involved were replaced under the extended warranty at no cost to me and I got the truck back on a Saturday. They gave me a free loaner (a 2019 Corolla, but I am not complaining).

They had two sets of paperwork for me to sign - one had all of the prices on it and the other (that I received) had $0.00 for everything. I got a glance at the one with the prices and it was a $1,533 job.

It was nice to go into the dealership with information, even though technically it should not have made a difference. I attached pics of the relevant portions of the receipt in case the information can help someone else.

Ditto. Thanks to the TacomaWorld community for staying on top of this issue. First place I checked to learn more about the P2442 code. 81k on mine, dropped off on Monday and picked up Wednesday afternoon.

2012 Tacoma 110,000 miles, Trac off and engine light on. Hoping they will cover the fix as I suck at mechanics. I received a letter on something for up to 150000 miles being covered but I'm not sure what it was for. Hopefully, I put the letter with the truck papers. I will have to check when I get off work. Scheduled to go to the mountains next week dammit.

Does anyone know if they will perform the fix if you've already done the bypass? I'm assuming not.

Add me to the list. 79k miles on my 2012. CEL and Trac Off lights came on yesterday. Called Toyota customer care last night to start the process of setting up an appointment with the local dealership. Stopped by Advance Auto to confirm what the code was. It was P2442. Dropped off at the dealership today and they confirmed that it would be covered under the program.

Just got my 2012 back on Saturday. They had it for the whole week. P2441 and P2442 I think.

I didn’t really mind because they gave me a 2020 loaner I logged about 1,000 miles on.

2012 TRD Sport owner here. I'm somewhere around 104,000 miles and just had the P2442 code come up today, with the check engine and traction control light both on and limping, especially going up hill. I pulled everything out. The air pump looks to be in great condition and the filter under the cover is intact. Wiring is in good shape. Looking into the air injection valves I can see some rust, however I couldn't get the covers off as the torx screws were seized up even though they looked okay. Managed to get one of the eight screws loose, but stripped two. This was after letting penetrating oil soak in for a bit. I wasn't feeling up to drilling them out and then dealing with that. Maybe it wasn't the greatest idea, but I sprayed a bunch of pb blaster into the valves and let it sit for a while, then let it air dry for a while longer. Reinstalled everything, cleared the code, and all was well driving it around a bit. Of course, I'm just waiting for it to come back now...if it doesn't then great, but if so I'll buy the part and replace it (as I've already had it off, it isn't too difficult apart from working around some tight areas.) I'll look into this update for secondary coverage before I do that, maybe something good will come of it.

During almost two years of owning the truck this is the first issue I've had, though it's pretty frustrating! I'm used to replacing parts on my '97 Cherokee, this was my first time under the hood in the Tacoma for anything other than an oil change. Bad timing too, as I'm really close to needing new tires! I'm not looking forward to potentially spending another $500-ish on top of that haha

Why not take it to the dealer? Toyota is covering this.

When I initially looked into this, especially in the early pages of this topic, I wasn't finding anything regarding it being covered. I found the document posted above after I did all that! Also, I had just left my house and was a little concerned to drive it too far as at the time I had no idea what was going on and didn't want to cause any further damage. Anyways, I'll give them a call tomorrow. They were about to close by the time I read into the issue and realized what was going on.

Just don't tell the dealer you've done any work yourself. When I took my 2012 in they found some glue where the previous owner had made a temporary fix to the Air Injection Pump. The service department repaired my truck under Toyota's extended warranty on the Air Injection Pump but mentioned the glue when I picked up the truck, I got the feeling that they could have denied the warranty repair if they wished beacuse of this.

10-4. I'm not the original owner so hopefully if there's any concern I can pass it off as a previous owner. Are they replacing the whole part, or just the internal valves, etc? If it's the entire thing my guess is they won't even notice it's been removed as I only stripped the two torx heads. Otherwise, I'll deal with it as it comes!

Thanks for your responses and help!

Dropped the truck off at my local dealership earlier and the secondary coverage came up on their end. Got a call about an hour later saying they looked it over, had the part in stock and would be ready tomorrow morning. No hassle, no fuss!

My 2012 Tacoma with 183k miles went into limp mode yesterday and had the infamous P2440 & P2442 codes.
After reading about TSB 0333-17 here on Tacoma World I too followed everyone's advise and reached out to Toyota USA Customer Care (888 270 9371) this morning.
I was pleasantly advised by customer care that indeed the warranty was extended up to 10 years from the original date of purchase and unlimited miles.
So now I'm sitting at the Toyota Service department for them to confirm the codes and warranty coverage.
After I inquired about them providing me with a loaner vehicle while my truck is waiting on the parts, they have agreed to do so if they find it is the Secondary Air Injection Check Valve and Pump.

I will update my post when all is resolved, hopefully with a positive experience.

Update: 3 hours later, my truck was ready to go. No charge for parts and labor. I was ready for an oil change so I had that done while there. $41 out the door.

Thank you all for all the information you provide on this forum.

Thanks to everyone who posted about this problem and provided info on the warranty extension. I left for work this morning and check engine and Trac off lights came on with a significant loss of power. Limped to Advanced Auto and pulled the code. It was P2442. I was getting ready to take to a mechanic my boss recommended, but did a search and found this thread. Took the truck to the dealership and they're fixing it at no charge. You guys saved me a lot of $$$. Thanks everyone.

I have the same question - I actually got mine done at about 45k miles - Its a 2012. I'm at about 90k now. My worry is that we head into 2022, and things seem to be ok, the 10 year warranty goes bye-bye, and then it happens again. I'd like to figure out a permanent fix, if it does happen again. And I don't want to hear "Sell it".
