Granted I went with TC, but on most of these uniball assemblies, the best way to do it is to just get everything on in the right order and then let the impact snug it all down.

 

BFH (Big F'n Hammer); had to use it on some of the the other stuff, sleeves through the urethane bushings. But, definitely these misalignment spacers were different. I even measured them.

Correct. The tapered part goes into the spindle. The opposite end is what I can't get to slide into the 3/4" bottom spacer. See the second pic. It has an inside lip oppose to the other on the right, which is smooth all the way through the inside diameter. I thought of using the BFH, but it's way out of tolerance, and I didn't want to risk damaging it.

Interesting. Again, you might be able to use the bolt to draw it all together with an impact hammer, but if you damage it, you're stuck with an undriveable truck until the replacement part arrives.

He could use another bolt and do it off the truck or if he doesn't have a bolt just unbolt the stock uca at the spindle and bolt it up as if he's installing it.

 

My concern would be the either the taper or the uniball assembly splitting if he drew everything together with the impact. I agree with him - it definitely looks like a step was missed in machining and that thing isn't to spec. Another possibility would be scored threads/crossthreading that would make it impossible to disassemble the whole shebang without some drilling/cutting.

 

I put a thin coat of grease, set it on a block of wood, and used a rubber mallet to get mine in.

 

Problem solved. Thanks to sdtruckshop. I called them and they gave me a tip of putting a socket over the tapered end and hammer away with the bfh. Took a quite few hits, but i got it to seat flush. Thanks sdtruckshop!

Where are you guys getting the dry teflon lube? I've gone to literally about 7 automotive stores and nobody has the foggiest idea what I'm talking about.

At least here, Lowe's has it. Dupont makes it. Just try hardware stores (NOT their silicon teflon lubricant though, they have a dry one that you want.) May have to order it if it isn't available near you.

Jason, Lowes is the only place that carries the Dupont Dry Teflon. Must be trademarked.

I believe you can use any dry silicone. I just got the Dupont one cause that is what people recommended. Teflon is a Dupont TM.
Remember only for the Uni-ball. Not the joints. They use grease.

 

Careful though, we're talking about the dry teflon wax stuff, not the silicon. The silicon stuff rubs off really fast. (Insert a joke here)

Check bicycle shops too. Its popular for chains. Its not DuPont but it is a dry teflon lube. There are a few different brands I've seen.

Anyone experiencing creaky / popping noise from uca's? I have a driverside noise that seems to be coming from the bearing. Any ideas on the fix? I have 100miles on them if that and the truck has been aligned. Zerks are greased and visually appear to be ok. The noise seems to be only at a stop or slow speeds. Although tire noise could be covering it up on the roads. Need fix as I can't take much more. Perhaps a break in period? Or failed bearing?

 

I hear a little creaking when the uniballs aren't lubed enough. I have another pop too that may be related, I haven't really looked into it, haven't had a problem.
