Does it make sense to lift my truck?

I have a 2011 Toyota Tacoma TRD and have a few items that need to be replaced. I'm eventually wanting to put a lift (probably 1.5-2") on my truck and am wondering if now is the time.

The items that I need to replace are:
    • Rack and pinion assembly
    • Rear shock absorbers
    • Both front struts

My question is does it make sense to go ahead and put a lift on it now, since i'll be taking apart a lot of my front suspension anyways? If so, any guidance on kits? I'm trying to stay under $1,200.

Honestly, you don’t need to if you don’t have to. If you’ve gotten everywhere you ever needed to go on your stock suspension, there’s no need to change the geometry. Plus, you’ll find lots of low mileage OEM take-offs in the marketplace

    The simple answer is no.

The more nuanced version depends on some other questions. Who will be doing the maintenance? Is the $1200 only for suspension parts or the R&P also?

If you will be doing the maintenance yourself or with friends, then likely no. It will cost the same whether you put in a lift or stock equivalents. OEM takeoffs from a 3rd gen will give you plenty of life to save up for your lift.

If you are paying someone else for labor you would save having to pay that twice which makes sense.

Yeah this makes a lot of sense. The $1200 is only for parts, the plan was to do the work myself. I've never done a lift before, but have changed plenty of suspensions. I do a lot of camping and backpacking so my thoughts on doing a lift was I would be replacing more parts, with better ones and also gaining more clearance (once I get new tires). Although, I would rather buy a ARE camper shell than a lift. The suspension is just more of an upcoming priority.

This is why I got mine! More of a suspension upgrade imo

It never makes sense the things we do to our trucks, but we do it anyways. Of course lift it or we’ll make fun of you.:rofl::thumbsup::thumbsup:
