Would be perfect for keeping a dedicated trail monster, not a daily.

Lucky man. Sold my V8 4Runner and bought a Vette. Lol. Money well spent, but I drive my TRD Sport more because I have kids, so come to think of it the money may not have been well spent. Oh well. The V8 4Runner motor was over engineered by Toyota; if not for the emission/fuel restrictions and the recession of ‘09 we might have still seen V8’s beyond the full-size vehicles. Hang onto it if you can, but if not, the Tacoma has a lot to be enjoyed by you.

Same. No issues. My Land Cruiser (on my 2nd 200) is much heavier with the same FT-4WD, also no tire issues.

The 4th gen 4runner had major problems with sticking/rusting brake calipers. Many people upgraded to 5th gen pads and rotors to avoid the issue. Other than that my 4th gen was bullet proof. The V6 versions, particularly early gens, had head gasket issues.

My bother really liked his 4runner overall but use always him say if only the tire lasted longer. Well, he's got a hybrid rave4 now and loves it.

I got rid of my 2016 BBP TRD OR auto and went to a 2005 V8 4Runner., Don’t regret it. I am however thinking about a 2020 TRD OR with a manual. I will keep the runner as it’s purpose in life will be different.

Imo, after having the v6 auto 2020 tacoma its nowhere as bad as some say. Glad i didn't get the manual....who want's to be towing anything with this motor having to always shift it. I can just imagine how long the clutch is going to last. Even the dealer told me if you keep the truck as long ass i do, it'll be worth zilch when the time comes vs having the automatic.

Pretty sure the dealer will tell you anything to buy.

Dealer had nothing to do with my decision. They do look at it if your one of those guys that trades up every few years. If i wanted a manual i could of bought one. Back in the day they were fine in the small 4x4's or gen1 tacoma 4 cylinder trucks...i had a 77, a 79, and 84 4 cylinder with manual tranny's. At around 50-60k miles the clutch was toast on 2 of them from towing a 2 place open snowmobile trailer in the winter, and a lightweight boat in the summer.

I have an 84 with almost 200k miles on the original clutch. It has pulled a boat many times.

If you are burning up clutches at 50k miles, you made the right choice with an automatic.

I hated the 3rd gen tacoma. I am in an outback now because of it.

With your username, an Outback is quite appropriate for you...

I guess it depends on the hilly roads around here with lots of stop and go. I had an 86 extra cab and a v6 93 extra cab 4x4 toyota pickup both auto's, both a pooch. Except for beating the snot out of them both got far better resale value than if they had a manual tranny.

Weird about the complaints about the AC. When it’s 110° and I get in, it gets ice cold within 10 minutes so much so that I have to turn the fan down. 2019 Pro.

Had a 05 4runner V8. Loved it. Currently own v6 Tacoma and Lexus GX470. The top end feels about equal in power, the low end is not even close. The 4.7 V8 has much better throttle response and driving is more enjoyable. Recommend having both!

AC sucks lol. Subaru guy here and if that is why you are dumping the crosstrek you will be disappointed. I’ve had 4 Subaru’s and their AC was/is much better

    It's a secret
What you will dislike about it is after 3 to 6 months it will not have the New-Vehicle smell.
