What does the “SSS” on the hood stand for or is that 555?

    I like your avatar.

Are your Cubs round hood or square hood? I’ve had several Cubs, to be no bigger than they are they surprise me!

Is that an American tractor or English? I’ve never seen it before. Our Ford 4630 has shuttle but it’s not hydraulic and it also has no markings.

    Thanks!

Round hood, the older one (in worse shape) was tipped over backwards when my grandpa tried to move a mobile home with it, I couldn't even imagine trying to move a mobile home with a cub.

I forgot about this one, I know it's not a great photo but I just happened across it, it's an older 3cyl john deere that my dad bought in the early 00's, we used it to maintain a grass airstrip and it worked well until it sat.

And this is my project tractor, once we get our shop built I would like to get it working again, my grandpa gave it to me just before he passed, he and my dad used it for their work back when dad was younger than I am, the frame was cracked when they had a bucket full of dirt and a front wheel found a hole while they were driving across a field, they brazed the frame back together and it's held so far.

That one looks like an MT or a 40T, what’s the one with the loader, a 20 series or a 30? I grew up on a JD 1020. My dad bought it brand new in 1970 and still uses it today, he’s 70.

Ill check the model when I go out to the property today, I think dad said it was an MT.
The one with the loader is a 1020, I don’t remember if it’s gas or diesel though, I remember looking at gas engine rebuild kits for it but I don’t think my grandpa would’ve bought gas powered since his other equipment was diesel. Apparently it ran until after I was born, this was likely either ‘99 or 2000.

It’s in really bad shape so I hope to start working on it soon. In the first photo you can see a tiny bit of one of the cubs just over the hood.

Yours is diesel, you can see the injector return lines on top
This is my dad on his 1020 back in the 1970’s picking corn with a JD 101 semi mount picker.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it.
Thats awesome! I love the look of them without the loader, for cost sake I may refurbish mine without the loader for now, hydraulic lines are flipping expensive especially when you add the cost of rebuilding the cylinders.

    Deere is a 420-T

This Cub is the one that’s run most recently, when I was 4 or 5 I remember riding on it with my grandpa preparing the watermelon field.

@95 taco I would have never guessed that 2 cylinder JD to be a 420T, it’s an early one because the steering wheel is straight up and down. They switched them to a slant steer shortly after production of them started, here’s a photo I found of the slant steer

I've never seen one with the tilted wheel and associated it with dads tractor, it's cool that they had the straight wheel, I personally like the look of the straight wheel better.
The serial number is under 90,000 so it's pretty early into the 550,000 that were reportedly made.

After doing some reading I'm surprised that it's a 20 horsepower for the size.

Nice! How many HP is it? Turbo? The 4630 we have is an early one with no turbo.

I can’t remember the hours on this one but it’s got quite a few. I used to drill all the soybeans with it and a heavy ass Crust Buster drill. I interplant beans now so I just use it for disking.
