How to Drain/Refill Automatic Transmission

Thanks everyone, I originally wanted to check level because my transmission no longer goes into Overdrive. So, I checked and my level is fine. Can anyone give out any suggestions as where to go from here? Could this be a solenoid issue? Thanks.

did it just go out all of a sudden ? Make any weird noises? Slip? Hard shifts? Also how many miles does it have ? And have you ever changed the fluid ?

About two years ago it was making hard shifts, had the oil changed at dealership and the hard shifts went away. A year ago the OD went out, no other issues with trans. Miles 140k Thanks.

 

About to try this again in a couple weeks to remove clunking I still have after doing this. Accidentally drained a bit of ATF fluid, no clue how much came out as it drained into already filled tray of engine oil. Took to Valv shop and had them fill up, but pretty sure they were clueless on Toyota AT mechanics, I then tried this tutorial and drained till what I assumed a small trickle came out, and it appeared the issue was resolved, until I continued to experience clunks.

Can someone explain what a small trickle looks like?

It very similar to peeing after drinking a few beers, your just about at empty, but your holding on to get every last bit, then it starts to trickle a little. ( plug it now).

Appreciate the visual, but damn, that's what I did.

Only possibility is that maybe the temperature wasn't right when I did then. I did temp check mode with crossed pins, but it was a very hot day, so I have to assume that was the problem.

 

When the ambient temp is close to your check temp. it’s easier if you do it in the morning when it’s cooler.

Just did this on my 2015 SR5 and the A/T TEMP light flashed after the 4th shift but not after the 6th. After 5 minutes or so of idling it lit up and I finished the level check. Hardest part was getting the wires into the ODB connection - it helped to cut them at an angle and twist so they taper.

 

I used wire pin connectors. (right side) But I like Plain Jane Taco's idea.

Indeed it does. I've done several DAFs and wouldn't trade it for anything

 

Not sure I'll go to that trouble with a 60k change interval but for the skookum

 

I did 4 DAFs over the course of a couple of weeks at 50k miles.....plus an initial level check before that. So it came in handy.

 

Going to attempt the transmission change this week at 85k.
