    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

They used to... now he "redesigned" them and they are listed for 05-15. The actual 3rd member housing should be the same between 1st and 2nd gen with the exception of the drain plug being on the other side.

I'd like to see if I can find out if it could be made to fit 8 inch e-lock 1st gen... even if I had to cover the drain and use the bottom 3rd member stud location as a drain.

But it seems there's no interest to find out if it could be made to work on 1st gen. :notsure:

    I've got a terminology question.

Under chassis lubrication in my owners manual it refers to Front Drive Shaft Thrush Bushings and the recommended grease. What the f--k is a thrust bushing? I've searched the forum with no success.

When I look at my front drive shaft I see two zerks on the side near the Transfer Case. One zerk is on a Universal Joint, the other is on a Slide Yoke. On the other side of the front drive shaft is another zerk on a Universal Joint. 3 total zerks on the front driveshaft.

Is Toyota referring to these two Universal Joints and one Slide Yoke as thrust bushings? If so, why refer to the Universal Joints on the rear shaft as "Spiders" and the rear Slide Yoke as a Slide Yoke?

I still find this statement odd..

2nd gens have the drain on the passenger side as well with the 8.4 diff:

[IMG]Wyo Big Horn TW Meet-110.jpg by Monte Nickles Photos, on Flickr

Makes no sense to me why that would keep it from fitting other than the drain area is just flat out different than 1st gens in placement or size? Which would be very odd for Toyota to do that...i'd be surprised if they did change it but at the same not..not ha

Well she has three pedals instead of two now! Pretty sure it's more a manual truck now then an auto... Just an FYI the brake pedals are different between the early first gens and later models like mine. Different bolt and sleeve size, different curve where it connects to brake MC. So ended up having to purchase a second one from an 03.

Here is a pic of all three: (Top is 99' manual, Middle is 03' auto, bottom is 03' manual) You can see the top one is shaped differently and the bolt is larger along with the pin that connects it to the brake booster/MC

    Now back to work...

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

I get what you're saying. Sometimes Toyota just doesn't make sense. My 8 inch e-lock housing is on the driver side. The skid fits up tight to the diff, so if the drain is in the wrong side (I'm assuming) the drain wont allow the skid to get close enough to install (hole in skid allows drain and ring to pass through it)

If I were positive that is the only thing that would cause a real problem, I'd be interested. But doesn't seem like there's any real interest to find out on a 1st Gen.

One of these days I might see if a local 2nd genner has the diff and would let me test fit, I don't know.

But as far as fitment info... I'm just going off what it says on Jerry's site.

Doesn’t he still have a 1st Gen? Maybe he’s got one in stock he could try out on it and report back. I know us cheap 1st Gen owners don’t spend money so it might not be worth his time but who knows.

I would be interested, but not enough to buy one and find out it doesn't work. And then be stuck with it try to sell on ebay.

That's because the booster and MC are totally different in the early years vs later. So makes sense.

Hm so this is saying that 2nd gen axles all drain on the passenger side then. Interesting. Wonder why that wouldn't fit with a 8.4 1st gen axle.

Idk why I care that much I already have one haha

I agree 100% about the 8.4... it SHOULD fit. As far as I know they are the same housing/3rd (I think the 2nd Gen axel is a little wider though iirc, but that wouldn't make a difference here).

Lol... must just be curious to know, for the sake of knowing. Jerry doesn't seem very interested.

I’m interested too. I wanted one before he discontinued the part. Unfortunately it looks like at best there are only three of us 1st Gen guys who want one.

Yeah they are 1" wider per side I believe.

No money to be had so can't blame him there.

Lol... but there is money to be had. If it'll work, I buy his skid plate (that's double the price of just about every diff skid out there)

I'd buy one for a first gen that didn't require mod / using the bolt as a drain lol. Steep price but look at that thing! For me, meaning not an extreme 4x4 guy, i'd like the peace of mind of having one of these if I thought I was close to dragging.

That being said, I've also got plenty of other demands on my wallet at the moment...

Thats potentially 4 buyers in 1 week. It’s a damn shame those 10 sat on that shelf for a year.
