0W-20 or 0W-16 now at dealers ?

More because the oil doesn't heat up in the 4-9 sec quarter mile pass. Many drag cars run without a cooling system, with the engine's water jacket filled with cement or resin for rigidity.

Many Pro Mechanics and Engine rebuilders say get rid of that 0W-16 crap,replace with OW-30 including the 0W20 oils,Low Viscosity is for better fuel economy and does not protect engine from early wear! Ask other Techs about this! 0W-16 or 20 is good for North Pole or Antartica with temps below -50 degrees F.

 

0w-16 is specced for some of the newer Toyota’s but not the Tacoma in either engine. My new RAV4 takes 0w-16, but I am opting for 0w-20 because of high load/high temp conditions. Even for the Tacoma, you can change viscosities although Toyota doesn’t advertise it. Simply CAFE standards. Our engines are used worldwide where other nations clearly advertise different viscosities based on ambient temperatures. Our engines aren’t “engineered” to run on 0w-20. That’s simply what Toyota wants you to use so that it can meet fleet-wide mpg goals. ​

 

If you have to run 0-20 for warranty use mobil one EP, its considerable thicker than most 0-20 oils. Runs quieter too.

50 more horses than 2nd gen if you keep the revs up. Also helps if you have Duratracs with less pavement grip than stock tires...
