Re:this pole. Did people do all this as kids? We had a stick with a shoe string tied to it and that was our horse. Dad said if we hadn’t been born boys we wouldn’t have had anything to play with when we were young. We were poor and didn’t go many places. I never had any grandparents. Dads got killed in a car wreck when he was 12, moms passed about 2 years before I was born. Looking back, I had a great childhood though.

We had no vacations or trips to the lake. We did however get on our bikes when we woke up and drug in just after dark. Most of my memories are good ones.

We spent most of our time away from school in a tobacco field, getting wood up, or in a hayfield. Just depends on what time of year it was.

Similar. Grew up fairly poor. No vacations and I moved around so not a whole lot of friends. Grandparents and cousins nearish were all horrible people so we stayed away.

Loved watermelon and have fond memories of riding my bike and camping during the summers with my dad.

Summer trips to NJ getting loaded as a kid with my cousins and aunts/uncles. White castle and skinny cheese pies. Oh and lightning bugs.

Sixth grade. First “girlfriend”. We rode bikes together every day that summer. One day I got a flat. We headed to the local service station that her dad owned to fix it. I put glue on the tube and lit it like I’ve seen the pros do. I had the applicator in my hand and it caught on fire. I threw it and it hit a pan that had parts soaking in gas. She was screaming and her dad ran in and grabbed an extinguisher. I ran out the back door and left my bike there. Her old man fixed my tire and brought my bike to my house. The very next day, we were climbing a tree to get to the treehouse and she fell and broke her leg. That was the end of that romance. She was bad luck.
