Is not the 3rd gen Tacoma the perfect blend between HP and torque in 4L?

 

It's where the power is during the rev range. Most would prefer power down low like the old 4L model.

The peak numbers are good, but driveability is the key issue that 3rd gen has faced.

It did take me awhile to figure it out, step on the gas.

 

I think they got the 4low right in this truck. Pretty impressed

Actually you can change the title very easily. But to tell you how would spoil our fun.

 

Which school of thought does the group subscribe to as far as beak in. We all know the power come at higher RPM’s. The book says to not accelerate hard in the first 1000 miles but it’s so slow pulling out into traffic without gunning it a bit. There are those who say break in should be “drive it like your going to drive it”. I’ve been using the “tiptronics” or whatever Toyota calls it to keep the RPM’s up without “flooring” it but that may be outside the break-in instructions too? it’s a bit painful this first 1000 miles going by the book!!

 

While most all Tacomas do great off road, a perfect blend of torque and gearing it is not. In any range.

Cool trail, steep, nice trail with consequences.
