paint my new bumper when it gets here? i was thinking about just primering it and undercoating it? i dont wanna spend a ton of $ getting it powdercoated or line x'd

Well.....how good do you want it to look? If looks aren't an issue then yes just primer it and paint.
If you want it to look more of a show piece you may have to do some grinding and putting on bondo and some more sanding. And good amount of layers of primer and paint along with more sanding. But wouldn't recommend this if you offroad, no point to it, because it will get scrapped up soon anyways.

I think you should line-x it, but you said you don't want to pay the money for that.
You may want to look into doing a herculiner DIY kit, but I'm not sure how good it looks and I have never done it before.

You may also want to look into doing a hard rubberized coating out of a spray can. I have done this before and it doesn't look all that bad, and it's very cheap. It's also very tough.
But I would still recommend doing a primmer first and a light sand and clean before applying.

 

yeah i'm not worried about making it look like a show piece, the more i've been searching around the more i'm leaning twords the rusolium spray in bed liner, seems to be pretty tough, cheap, and easy to touch up, i'm still open to ideas, i've got a couple weeks to think about it

 

considering you just spent 1000 bucks for it, i'd do it right and get it line-x'd or powdercoated. you don't want your investment to rust up

I herculined mine, for 25 bucks it came out pretty damn good!

I use the rustoleum spray on bed coating that comes in the can. Its about $8-9 a can and 3 cans gives good coverage with multiple coats, plus a little extra for touch ups when necessary. A touch up a couple times a year is probably plenty based on how mine has held up over the last 5 months. I've touched it up once- there were a few rock chips, but I also hit a rock offroad and scraped some off which is what I was really doing the touch up for.

 

You could just have a bodyshop spray it with sealer. Nice part about the sealer is that it's tough as hell, they can load the stuff on nice and thick to provide good protection, it's tintable, meaning you can get it an a variety of colours, and it's got a smooth finish that if you don't like in time (or want to change) you can just sand it up, and apply another finish right over it.
