Terra Grapplers or Duratrac's?

I'm looking into these two tires in a 265/70-17 to go on my new wheels. I've checked locally, and on line, and the Nitto's are quite a bit cheaper no matter which way I go...about $350-400 difference. I like the look of the Duratrac more, and my friend has them on his full size Dodge, and loves them. I've been reading that the Duratrac is hard to balance, and makes quite a bit more noise...true? I don't really off road, but would like the tire to do it if required. I mostly drive highway in the summer towing my dirt bike around. Is the Duratrac that much better to be worth the extra $? My local Kal Tire had nothing but good things to say about the Nitto's, and they do look cool with their wide, blocky profile. So, any insight you guys/ gals can give me? I currently run Revos, and they will be kept for winter.

 

I've got Duratracs and love them. Don't really notice the noise with the radio on. I would say they might wear out faster than the Nittos but so far mine are holding up great. I don't think alot of the fullsize guys are getting great miles out of them but with these lighter trucks they should last.

 

i just put duratracs on my 2nd gen last week and i love them! they are 285/75/16 and i hardly get any road noise on the highway with them, just a slight humm but not enough to be annoying or anything. off road they are pretty good as well. im waiting to use them in the snow if we ever get any.

 

You figure it's worth the extra coin? I can get the Nittos locally for about $945 installed, and the Duratrac's are more like $1345 installed.

 

im running the terra grapplers and i love em. never had any experience with the duratracs. but from a few posts ive seen, some of them have been very difficult to properly balance. not sure of the circumstances, just from things ive seen

 

really? i got my nittos for 560 with mounting and balance, then an extra 45 for alinement, mine are 265/75/16, have bout 1000 miles on them, and they still look good as new, they did alright in mud, kinda never really slipped, but the mudd wasnt the freshest to it wasnt so slippery,but when i got out the mud was still stuck on the tires, but it came off as soon as a started to drive again, but i really like them, they looked better to me in person too. they are quiet until highway speeds then u hear a lil mild hum, i think its perfect not to loud and u could make it go away with some volume from ur music. and it made my truck stand a lil taller, i mean i noticed bcuz when i got in after they were done. except i got the D load range, and my truck use to been serching for gears when im coasting to a red light, and i guess since my tires are a lil heavier, my truck doesnt do it anymore and keeps it steady and coast to a red light.
i was personaly was gona get the duratracs but they were a lil expensive so i just rolled with the nittos, and save my money for other mods

 

if u wheel a lot get the duratracs

 

If your only doing limited off roading stick with the Nittos. They can still handle trail use and are much cheaper.

 

The reason for the price diff is I am in Canada holmes...

I have the nittos...I like them a lot. I drive like a bat out of hell and they're holding up pretty well. They grip great on and off road. A lot of guys at work use them too...actually most of the trucks at work have them (a lot of f250s). If you're using them mostly for on-road, then why get a noisier tire.

 

that sucks that the price is so high for you in canada on either tire. also, in the states, there is not such a difference in price for the two. i personally have the duratracs. i've had them for about 13,000 miles and they still look new. they do have a slight hum, but having the radio at even a moderate level cancels that out. the duratracs obviously look more aggressive and beefy than the terra grappler. the terra grappler just looks like a larger car tire to me. the duratracs also have a better grip than the nittos. on the other hand, the nittos may last longer. but objectively and at the end of the day it comes down to: a more aggressive tire for more money or a less aggressive tire for less money. for me, i would get the duratracs again because they are pretty similar in price (here). even if they were like $100 more, i'd probably still get them for the better looks. but if i were in your shoes, with the $400 difference, i'd get the nittos. they will probably last longer, they are a much better deal, and they don't look bad at all, just not as "tough" looking as the duratracs. they probably are not quite as capable off road because of the tread, but you said you don't really off road. i'm sure they would hold their own off road as long as you didn't push your luck too much.

Have you looked at General Grabber AT2s? I heard those are great tires at a great price about 150 here in the states. If I was getting tires for the street I would not get such an aggressive tire. I like to off road so I went with the aggressive tire. I say go with terra grapplers based on your style of driving.

 

Also tires wear regardless what which ones you get...save the $400s and get something else with that. That is just too much of a difference for "Just Looks" since you don't off road. Or come to the states. I got my tires for 1030 OTD before all the rebates I will get.

 

nittos ride/balance great...compared to the duratracs... I have never had duratracs but I have had to balance them

 

i got the terra grapplers about a month ago, 285/60/18 on a 3 inch lift, i love them, not loud at all, and i do alot of freeway driving, i think they ride better than my stocks did, i had a little bit of rubbing when going backwards, so i just trimmed that like black thing that sticks down past the front bumper and no more rubbing

 

I went with the Nitto terra grapplers LT 285/65/18 if you go with the LT series you will get the 10 ply. They ride great, very little road noise and balance right. Nitto also makes a Hwy tread tire for truck, 50,000 mile warranty. (Hwy tread not real good for wheeling) Take the extra coin and do another mod to your ride.

 

my god those canada prices are insane! i ordered my duratracs from discounttiredirect.com (free shipping) 285/75/16 $933 set of 4. then about another $150 for mount balance and alignment, which they had no problem balancing the duratacs at all!
