Rear Traction Bars?

Anyone got some recommendations for a good rear traction bar?

 

If you're handy, you can create your own. Fully adjustable, no ground clearance issues.

 

If you saw how much the axle wrapped down under engine braking / braking in general, you would NOT run those.

 

Avoid the ones that attach to the diff carrier bolts. They can tweak the flange and cause leaks.

 

Unfortunately, this site won't let me post the video I made of the traction bar under acceleration and braking, so , just let me say - I HAVE seen how much the axle wraps under both acceleration and braking! I do understand what you are referring to, but in this case, you just have an opinion not based on any personal observation of this particular installation.

I have seen quote a few post for bud built traction bars. I know nothing about them, but seem to be good words when I've seen them talked about.

it's a good bar for certain. but it needs skilled fab work to properly mount or it's a full on liability.

 

calvert racing, highly recommended in the diesel scene, though I'm not sure if they make them for Tacomas.

 

They do, they call them cal-tracs. Have been considering a set for my taco

 

Had one on my truck (weld on) it was hardly close to a solution and hardly close to an easy bolt on solution at the cross member.

Poly joints at the rear still flexed way too much, and the cross member that the shackle bolted to is the flimsiness thing ever, not to mention the shackle bracket needed LOTS of massaging to actually work on the crossmember as well as the traction bar itself had to be clocked out of the way to clear the stock exhaust.

10/10 would not recommend, just build you own at that point.

 

my experience with the driving was not as poor as yours, it did quite a bit to plant the rear, and i toss my truck hard. but that's the thing. it lasted less than a week. lol. so you are 100% right.

 

Cal-tracs is what most everyone that drag races in vintage performance cars has been using for many years. They're vastly superior to the generic "slapper" bar design from 1970. I had no idea people would want to put them on a Tacoma, but whatever.

 

Damn. Axel Wrap is one of the biggest complaints I have. Even with Deavers it’s super annoying.

I already have the RuffStuff DIY kit to put one together and made plenty of room with a Borla muffler.

What can go wrong using a traction bar?

 

If you are using the stock center carrier cross member without significant reinforcement you need to start planning to get some in there asap.

Improper bracing on the axle side for such a small area of weld.

 

I mean. I didn’t get that BudBuilt junk. No way am I going to bolt it on to the diff.

Mine is going to sit on the other side of the muffler but it’s also going to be welded all the way around each bracket.

So as long as I have it away from the diff bolts and it has plenty on weld what other issues?
