My wife got to meet and befriend Col. Halvorsen USAF Ret. in 2016 when MAC was folded into AMC. Said he was the humblest man she’d ever met. We’ve got a copy of his book here and it’s a great read.

After Malmady the sixth armored division took a much fewer number of prisoners, after Buchenwald they took even fewer.

Killing SS troops became a point of pride to many once the eyewitness reports of the first camps made their way around.

Per dad (who saw Malmady and Buchenwald) SS troops would take the uniforms from enlisted Wehrmacht troops rather that get caught in SS regalia.

Soldbuch is what gave them away more often than not. Nazis were ridiculous in how much of each members military history was documented into their soldbuch, or military ID book from awards, discipline, movements, medical history and more. Once German speaking troops got to them it was easy to catch them in their lies just by inspecting the details of the book and asking them questions. Grandfather boasted about how they found three lowly Wehrmacht enlisted fellows that were surrendering that ended up being two high ranking SS goons and their junior officer assistant. They had fled from the eastern front to surrender to Americans because the two of them were highly sought after by the Russians for insane war crimes. Admitted to murdering over a dozen German military and civilians to get across to the west. I can only imagine how much fun the Russians had with them.

it’s believed that the last of the German WWII prisoners have finally died at the Russian prison work camps within the last ten years.

Some of them fellas say underway is anytime the ship is in the water.

I'm not judging fleeters. We all have needs.

Never. Same guy that tells the Bangkok story. Pretty sure he’s had a few lady-boy experiences but he denies it adamantly.

What, you couldn’t make up your mind? What MOS/AFSC? I am uniquely curious what job would allow you to cross services. All I can think of is medical or MP.

My great uncle started in the Army, got kicked over when the Air Force was born, then transitioned to the Navy and finished off in the Coast Guard Reserve.

It was hard to go from green to blue and vice versa, had to be old school to get 3 or 4 services

Worked with a guy a few years ago that my boss hired on to be his/our private security when we were on the road. Dude was Army in the early 90s, got out then went USMC and crossed services to USN once he got accepted into BUD/S. He did 2 years in the corps and 18 Navy as a teams guy. We would send him a few days ahead of us to coordinate secure transport and do secret squirrel stuff for the aircraft owner that I didn’t ask questions about.
