Yeah I agree renting is cheaper if only using for a vacation. We bought ours because we live very close to smith lake. 15 min drive and I can be in as much water as I could possibly need for some skis. Now if I had a large boat then I’d want to live closer to a larger body of water like guntersville at least. But since we now have our own skis I can take them with us on vacation at the beach every time. Just gotta have access to a garden hose each time.

We have been trying to decided between seadoos and a boat. Went to look at some boats last weekend. Salesman said tons of people buy right now due to virus and wanting to get out on lake. I may hold off till next year when all these people who bought decided they want to sale. Lol! Thoughts on on your seadoos? Did you guys look at boats?

28 hours not counting drive time. That’s how much I’ve worked yesterday and today.

I’m so freaking sore and tired.

Thanks for the info. I was trying to figure out the weight with everything and saw some skids and one of the bumpers I like come in aluminum. I was thinking of doing at least some pieces in each.

Had issue with using a mix of skids? Any problem with hitting the bumper?

My trans skid has taken the worst hits of any of mine. I had just got it straight and warped it again.

IDK. Somewhere kid friendly with swimming and a playground. Maybe Cheaha.

There’s a nice place near Choccolocco named Coleman Lake. We could even do some wheeling.

We’ve looked at getting a boat before but didn’t this time around.

Thoughts on skis.... not as good as boats overall for some. Skis are fun there’s no doubt. However we’ve ridden each time with other friends and family that have a boat. Nice thing about having a boat along with the jet skis is when kids wanna relax they sit back and enjoy a boat ride. Also taking turns on the tube.

With all that said, skis are way more fun. They’re faster accelerating, jumps and on the spot turns are great, adrenaline rush is 100 times better. Granted you can get the same thing in a boat if you have enough money :).

Downsides to jet skis are very minimal. We have two skis and only two adults and 3 kids. Unloading I have to back into water and get out of truck with my wife also so we can each get a ski. Then dock them and I go back to truck. Takes a little longer but not terrible. If your kids are old enough makes it much easier.

Another downside is fuel economy. You’re running two engines and they’re not as fuel efficient as a boat.

Last thing is something we haven’t had happen yet but will. If you take your wife and kids out riding together the younger kids aren’t going to want to ride for hours just on a jet ski without being able to drive them. My kids aren’t old enough so one ski has 3 and other ski has 2. Both are 3 seaters but we only have 3 kids. When we bring their friends if we only had the two skis then anything more than 6 and someone sits out for a bit.

Now, it would be great to have a boat and two skis but need kids to be older. Boats allow for all around family fun with nobody ever having to sit out on shore. Plus if you get something like a pontoon you could easily invite friends and family along with you and nobody would ever have to be sat down on shore somewhere waiting for a turn.

Overall I’m happy with purchase and would do it again. But we have the luxury of riding along side friends and family that already have boats and we just take turns on the skis and gives my wife and I a break from the drivers seat and can relax on the boat while someone that was on the boat can have a turn riding the skis since they allowed us use of their boat also. Works out perfectly then.

Also, next option for us would be to get 3 more jet skis in a couple of years when my girls are old enough. Then I could buy a triple ski trailer and wife and I both drive to lake. Then wife and I could have a ski and so could each of the girls.

This would be my idea.... wife will tell me to buy pontoon next though and it’s likely what we’ll do but either way she’ll have to learn how to drive with a trailer. Also have to buy her something other than her weenie GMC Terrain to haul with. It’s a weak 4 cylinder and even if we added a hitch to it not sure it could handle even towing the two jet skis while truck hauled the boat.

Our ultimate goal is to buy a camper or a lake house and a boat. Then no having to haul everything each time just get in the truck and go. Gotta start paying off stuff first before we get that much further into debt. Already have 3 vehicle payments, tractor payment, house payment, 2 ski payment, pool payment, and a small $65 a month furniture payment. Pool, furniture, my car, and her truck all be paid off in 18 months though. Then we’ll go from there.
