Purchased 2019 TRD Sport in April with 11K miles. Within the first day or two noticed the outside temp was reading 122 degrees farienheight. Truck went back to the dealership spent a week there got it back in proper working order. The next day it reverted back to reading 122+ degrees. Truck went back to the shop spent another week there. They replaced the sensor, two days later, doing it again....Toyota seems to not have a resolution... thoughts?

    Thanks from Maine.

All the more reason I just buy new and not new used...who knows if it’s a Toyota problem or a previous owner caused problem but now it’s your problem unfortunately. They get 3 attempts to correct the problem if not lemon law it.

I think max is 122. My truck is routinely 122 when I get in it (probably accurately too), once u drive does it normalize?

No, it will normalize after being parked for a bit, go blank and go up to 122.

How fast do you have to eat an ice cream cone there? Like is there a starting gun and a stopwatch involved?

Lemon law only if it's safety related, this doesn't apply.

I also think Lemon Law is only for new vehicles, not used ones like the OP has.

I lemon lawed my 2011 BMW 550. It was certified preowned. BMW bought the car back and reimbursed every payment I ever made. Basically drove it for free for 2 years. Dropped it off at the dealer and they handed me a check. That WAS safety related. This seems like something else. Can you change dealers? Has a Toyota corporate rep come to look at it yet?

Wow, I had no idea it applies to used vehicles too.

New or used doesn’t matter factory warranty is a performance contract not to be confused with an extended warranty which is a service contract. The latter you get shit. Under the performance contract Toyota has to fix it, replace it or buy it back.

Lemon law is also for more than just safety. Usually the laws are just more strict when it comes to safety defects. As with many things, lemon laws vary from state to state so you need to see what the lemon laws are for your state.

Lemon laws vary GREATLY from state to state, however I doubt seriously there's any state that will enforce a lemon law claim on a used vehicle for an issue such as an outside thermostat not working properly.

Like Kevin stated, each state has their own Lemon Law. In NM for example, a claim can only be during the first 12 months of the vehicle being delivered to the first registered owner; and the closer you get to the 12 months mark, the harder it is for someone to start a claim. The good news is that the claim can be for anything, not just safety-related issues. But if your claim is for a safety reason, your case is much stronger.
While I do not know of the lemon law(s) for your state, I'd hope that a certified pre-owned vehicle under the OEM warranty will be able to qualify; cause here it certainly wouldn't.
However, I'm not sure if Toyota would be very interested in a Lemon Law lawsuit over a sensor that can't be more than $100. Who knows though.. this is always a case-by-case situation.

With a temp reading that high, it’s most likely COVID related...
