2TR-FE Performance Thread

That's probably more clutch related. I lost that lag when I put mine in, now that's gotten some miles on it, it's back but not near as badly.
Hell, it may even be the ECU not wanting to get off the couch and do something productive.

I gotta figure out what I'm doing wrong, or the truck, because more often than not, I'm crunching that shift to 2nd. Prevalent on "cold" starts, but more or less nonexistent after about 15 minutes of driving. Weird!

 

I always thought this was caused by first and second gearing being too far apart. I have to ring it out in 1st so it isnt a turd right when i get into 2nd.

 

I doubt it. 2nd gear ratio in the R154 is 1.955:1 which is taller than the R155 (2.06:1). If anything, I'd expect it to be worse. It's likely that the problem isn't that the gap is too big, just that 2nd is too high. Instead of making 1st closer to 2nd, you should make 2nd closer to 1st.

It'd be interesting to know if you could swap the 2nd gear from the R151 or the R156 into the R155. That would help.

I've made some progress on the billet cover, will be slow on this one.

You can't just swap the single gear, would need to swap a shaft too (you'd be a hero and well paid if you make a custom shaft to swap in the the R155/6). I've asked PGS many times if their R154 gearsets will work in the R155 but never received an answer.

 

Aren’t you the hero that created the custom cv shaft to make 2nd gen manual hubs work? I was counting on you to figure this out.

@MadTaco461 , which transmission did you install in yours? 2rz, but still.

 

I have a r155 bolted to a 2rz.

 

Did you ever come across anything R154, during that research?

 

It's pretty much the same thing, just a different gear ratio. When I searched rebuild kits they are compatible with the whole r series family. I figured if the bearings are the same size they are all the same strength. This was just an assumption I came up since I never touched a r154.

 

Staria's Transmissions who builds all my friend's powerglides told me any R is interchangeable, as well as Weapons Grade Performance in CT had a few R's and showed me the bellhousings and gears. Haven't made a trip to WGP since Doug passed away though. If I get back there I'll get some pictures.

 

Right on, that'd satisfy curiosities. Now I have a problem, I was head first into an auto swap but swapping in a better gearset might do the trick. But that clutch though

Does anyone in here know if a 13-15 2TR-FE will work in an 05-12? I know the wiring harness changed in the cab, but i wasnt sure about the engine harness. Trying to track down a good used motor and there are tons of 2013s for cheap, but i wasn't sure it would work in my 2009

 

Do all the year models have that exhaust recirc? Whatever that is?

 

Yes all models of the 2TR have the secondary air injection if that's what you're referring to..

 

Then boom. It'd be no different that swapping in a 2012 + 1GR into a pre 2012. Swap over any different external parts.
