No shit? I did a lot of work with them post Desert Storm. I was 12th AF, 602nd TACCS/612th ACOMS. We built the AOC, and y'all would support remote units as needed. Competed with y'all at Combat Challenge a few times. Our 5-tons were prettier, but y'all were faster on the camo.

 

It really is a small world. In 2009 I ran into a guy walking down the street in AFG, he recognized me from 50 feet away. I had recruited him into the Corps in 1995!

 

I would be less concerned about that. In actuality the current generation of historians (40-60 yr olds) have done a great job the last couple decades giving a more realistic history. It’s the K-12 school system that white washes it. College level and historical books are a lot more honest in most cases. Read a recent book about the early republic, migration to the sun belt, or the designated “red areas” of the 60s suburban neighborhoods. Most of historical white washing was done during the Cold War to give American democracy the best image it could. That’s not to say we were the worst out there, BUT we did some pretty fucked up shit to “make America.”

Yes we did some awesome things too. This is just about the white washing part.

There’s a reason why places like that were always on the CGs off limits list. Also, some of these dumb fucks go and do this before an NCO or buddy can police them.

 

There was a chevy truck place that tried stiffing me similar to that....wanted $1000 down and would have been $500 mo. truck payment alone! Not including gas insurance, and i had rent, and food to buy. The manager was all pissed, turned beet red because i wouldnt sign papers...i told him #1 i didnt make enough#2 id be living in my truck if i signed. #3 i never agreed to sign. My military pay wasnt feasible at that time...i dont remember the interest rate but Im sure it was high..

I dont think we had anyone fall for that crap, but there were some f'ed up situations.
One guy got a Mustang GT. Then got drunk with his buddy and crashed, killing the buddy. Another guy got himself a Lotus Elise and parked it in base storage while deployed. Came back to a POS with water damage from hail breaking the glass and rotten tires from sun & rain because he didnt cover em.
