    Hey fellow taco owners
I have a 2009 DBL cab with the JBL stereo, I was wondering if I could mount another subwoofer and keep the stock amp? I would preferably like to enclose it in the space behind the driver side rear seat, anyone know/have/make any good enclosures that would go behind the seats?

Hey! I literally just did this last weekend. 2015 with stock jbl system and subwoofer. Replaced the head unit, kept stock jbl amp to power stock speakers and then added an amp and two 10s behind the back seat. Used idatalimk module to keep keep JBL amp for speakers and steering controls, etc. It was time consuming as I had to move the jbl amp under front passenger seat to make room for subs. Are you trying to keep the stock amp and sub and just add another sub and amp? Replacing your head unit?

Yeah man I would prefer to keep the stock amp and sub because they aren't bad at all. Keep the stock head unit just cause I like the OEM look of it and all I ever use is AUX. I was just wondering if there is extra wattage on the amp to hook up this hypothetical extra sub. But i'm guessing that I would need another amp to power it.

You would definitely need another amp and most likely a different head unit. Not sure how you would splice in another amp/sub to the stock head unit. Honestly if you were to add anything it would overwhelm the stock sub and you wouldn't notice it. Its only like 100 watt rms or something like that. I'm not knocking it cause it's by far the best stock system in any vehicle I've ever owned, just saying when you add another sub it won't need to be there. Just my 2cents

    Subwoofer facts:
You gain 3db in volume by doubling the cone area of the speaker (i.e. going from 1 10" to 2 10").
You gain 3db by doubling the amplifier power (i.e. going from 100 watts to 200 watts).
Mismatched speakers that play the same frequencies will ruin each speakers quality output and amplify their distorted output.
In order to add speakers to an amplifier the amplifiers ohm rating needs to be known otherwise you run the risk of destroying the amplifier. Typically you can add 1 sub wired in series to any amplifier however wiring it in series will negate all benefits of adding that additional speaker.

Yeah I think I've heard of that before, lol.

A friend of mine jumped in a Fosgate van and cranked the volume up and cracked their windshield hahahaha!

This will date me but...I once went from the Kicker Minivan (astrovan with 9 18s) into the Fosgate van with I think 4 15s - I think that van was the silhouette or something? Anywho - that Fosgate van was..insanity. Just unreal. I'm still kind of a bass-head. Have JL Audio 10s in a removal box in my rx8 (I pull it out for track days). :) Will need to figure something out for a tacoma.

Don't do *********. Just don't waste of money, just to look stock. Sound isn't that impressive. I went Alpine ilx-207 and use one of those fake stereo covers. Went with a custom small box behind the rear seat and a 12r. Powered by an alpine pdx 1000. While still using the ********* 4ch amp.

    That's awesome!
I had a friend melt some voice coils with a disc I gave him. A cracked windshield would have been spectacular though.
What's that smell he says.... I know that smell...wtf is it? Dude, that's the shellac on the voice coils. Several drivers did not survive. He replaced them all. Ouch

Thanks for all the replies guys. I think I might as well just stick with my stock stereo for now. I think its spectacular, I just had a friend who was going to give me a sub and was just wondering if I could add it in there without too many hiccups but clearly not lol. Thanks again.

Lol because they are a vendor here. Even if they offer poor customer service. Takes days to get ahold of them. The sound isn't all that. Shipping sucks and is often thrown together. All while the system is still based on the oem head unit. Don't waste your money on the Recurve system.

While they can ******* me here on who it is. That can't stop me from doing a review on YouTube. I have serious thought about doing that. As I spent a lot of money there to only be massively disappointed by them and the products.

have you looked at JL's stealth box series? i have a 14 and have the solo behind the passenger side rear seat and quite liked the sound with it. even the stock deck i was quite happy with it. i got a Alpine ILX-259 a few weeks months ago and now have realized need to replace everything else ha

I had one of those. It only will do 600w for the twin sub version depending on how its wired. I forget how much for the single sub version. But it's not a bad way to go for a good looking box for ok price.

yeah it comes with a JL 10TW3 and i had it paired with a JL XD600, it wont win any SPL comps but enough base and rattle to shake the eyeballs and rear view mirror

I haven't used it personally, can only speak on pricing and the user feedback I saw while researching, but when pricing it out at crutchfield for the JL Stealthbox and an amp that fit in the space for one to power both the sub + my door speakers, it came out to like $1300 just for the parts.

I ended up having some local guys build me my own system, which included a 10" Kenwood Excelon KFC-XW1000F, a Pioneer 5 Channel GM-D9705, AudioControl LC6i, mild sound deadening on the doors and rear cab wall, wiring, install, sub box, and a sub controller switch installed into one of the dead switches in the center console under the AC controls. Ended up costing me $1300 even after labor and install. And I'd venture to guess my setup is significantly more powerful than the JL stealthbox. Subwoofer with box takes up the 60% rear seat storage, removing the plastic insert, while the amp is installed vertically into the 40% rear storage area, with the plastic insert still installed.
