Bought my 85 4x4 without a test drive, drove it 29 years an 590k miles. Bought my 2020 4x4 without a test drive.

Some times we just know it's the right thing to do.

I think most will agree that with a bunch of added weight to your truck, without the proper suspension/gearing the truck will feel sluggish. I have found that using the ECT PWR button gives the pedal response a little more response in and around the city. I live in the mountains, so this is also a good feature. But truth be told, all tacoma's need a regear. 5th and 6th never get used so Toyota can look environmentally responsible on paper. A shame really.

Yeah I’ve always felt my transmission is fine. I do find the truck a little laggy from a stop though but I can live with it.

Now that you’re on TW, your truck will have transmission issues

You’ll find three types on the site-
    1. Those that think Toyota can do no wrong and Tacoma’s are perfect and anyone who says otherwise is a whiner,
    2. Those who think everything is wrong on their Tacoma and Toyota sucks,
    3. Those who know the good things, the shortcomings, because Toyota engineers aren’t perfect, and love their Tacoma’s anyway.
Mostly 1’s so far in this thread :D

10,000 on my 2019 Off-road, and I still can't figure out people are complaining about. Runs great, sounds great, fits great, haven't gotten stuck yet and I discovered the Outlaw Country station. Let's see...my now teenage boys who can drive themselves complain that the back seats aren't as comfortable as the recliners in the old Sienna. That's about the only gripe I can come up with.

Welcome aboard, glad you like it.
I dont have a problem with mine either. I recently bought a 17 OR.
I drove Jeeps for 30 yrs...its was a little different but that was just going from one to the other.
Try using S around town, if you havent already. I like it.

Hard to complain about the two overdrive gears when going from 14.5 mpg with my 4.7 tundra to 22 with the v6 tacoma over the same route.

My 2017 will hit 50k miles soon and I'm still waiting for the trans to act up.

Something strange is I always feel a bit of grinding or something when I start from a stop. Just a second or so, but it seems strange to me. Maybe its just the torque converter spooling up?

This is my first automatic transmission, so everything about it seems out of sorts.

Probably should have gotten a manual. lol
