Help with changing wrong fluids

So my younger bro said "Hey Ill change ur oil" So I let him but I walked out to see how things were going and the oil pan was red....he took out the 14mm tranny plug instead of the oil plug and now Im wondering what I should do?

 

Put the tranny plug back on, torque it, then refill the tranny with new fluid (about the same amount your brother removed) until the level is back to normal. Make sure you put the fluid in the right fill port. Remember to set the parking brake and leave the trans idling in neutral as you refill it back to normal level.

 

nope, get it towed, i wouldn't touch my tranny with a 10ft poll, i'd let toyota do it

 

Measure the exact amount spilled into the drain pan and go to dealer and buy some more(Toyota WS I believe) and add it back. Or look up "mountain lion's" excellent diy post on tranny flush procedure and replace it all. If you want a really warm fuzzy feeling inside replace with Amsoil ATL fluid. Lots of info and pics on here.

oh and it gets better....he used the Mobil 1 oil I had but didnt change the old oil out...so now not only do I have to worry about the fucking transmission I have to drain the old/new oil and go buy more Mobil 1.. FUCK MY LIFE.

 

guess ill have AAA tow it to toyota tomorrow morning...what should I expect to pay toyota for just refilling the tranny fluid? I know prices are gonna be different but a round about number would help?

Accidents always happen. Unless you can get that amsoil stuff, you are stuck. You need the right tranny fluid. Do not drive it with no fluid. Fortech (tw member) had a great diy pm changing the ATF. Real simple. If you have a lot of miles, tow it and have Toyota flush it. Low miles, just drain and fill. There are some things you will need to do to properly check thd ATF level. A drain/fill needs roughly 3 qts.

When you drain your oil, keep in mind you have double the fluid. You need s oil pan that will hold all that.

Thanks for the help on short notice guys! Im just gonna drain old/new oil and put new oil in it and looks like fucktard got the oil filter on ok...so thats good..then have it towed to toyota to just fill it up, and should be good after that.

 

make sure the old filter he removed still has the rubber gasket on it and that its not stuck underneath the old filter or your gonna be out some more new oil.

 

I thought ur supposed to put the transmission fluid into the cooling system lol. Sorry krazie I had too.

 

If your brother needs a job, print out this thread, he can use it for a resume to get a job as oil changer at probably most jiffy lube/quick lube/walmart places, even a lot of dealers. Probably get hired on the spot if they need someone. Haha. j/k. It'll work out, make sure he learns from this.

when it comes to maintenance I seem to be retarded, but when I changed my oil I got it right the first time, when i read all the posts about people draining the tranny iso the oil it boggles my mind that i got it right,cause with my luck it should have been red oil pouring into the pan.

Okay, I'm going to risk making myself look like a dumb ass but here goes.

Our 2011 DC will be here in a few days so I am a bit ignorant on it yet.


It seems to me that the tranny and oil drain plugs are very different, at least on my Camry they are.
The tranny drain is a hex key (allen wrench) and the engine oil plug is a hex cap screw correct? Why are they so easily confused?

Reminds me of a story:
My (thank God) ex-wife bought a new Subaru and at 5K miles her father decided to change the oil. After he was done she and her mother went shopping and the car died on the freeway. They had it flat bedded to the dealer who found no fluid in the tranny and twice as much oil in the engine as there should be. That was a $6000 mistake!
