So i saw yesterday that my windshield had a line starting at the center of the windshield and moved towards the passenger aide, today i noticed it getting longer and continuing towards the passenger side. I called my insurance company, and they will take care of it as long as i pay my deductible. Called my toyota dealership and had a quote of 1426 OTD. After i talked to my insurance again the lady said i should go with safelite, my only issue is that i am not sure if safelite will use all OEM parts, and i still do not know how much it will cost with safelite. Has anyone replaced their windshield and what path dis you take? This is on a 2018 TRD OR by the way. So it has the TSS and lane departure stuff. Any info would be helpful

Paying on your own you can get it for less than 400 through safelite

If you shop around you can probably get one in the 300 range

Thats what i thought but since the 2018 has that camera on the windshield the price is a bit higher.

I dont think so. I think the dealership is out their mind.

I have had safelite replace 2 windshields on jeeps...tj and a Grand cherokee.
I think the Grand cherokee was done 2-3 yrs ago and it was about 250.00 give or take.

I’ve used Safelite a number of times with no problems and wouldn’t worry about using them again.

Safelite will use OEM spec products and is likely who the dealer will bring in. With modern features the price sounds about right. That's what I was quoted on my Lexus, as a ballpark figure.

If you request it, and you should, most places can get OEM (Pilkington) glass. Safelite can be hit and miss. You might try a local glass company, many do automotive in addition to home and commerical.

Are you just worried about having an OEM windshield? Honestly I would just use Safelite, that dealer is trippin', don't need an OEM windshield anyways, it's a windshield.

No not the oem windshield but about the go pro mount and that stupid camera. I honestly don't know or have any idea if they use the aame camera or they take it off and they also have to recalibrate that.

Just used safelite last week for about the 5th time. Fast, professional, affordable. Paid cash for my 2016 mustang windshield $267

Umm, no. They always have the OEM of the glass etched into them addition to Toyota branding. Tacoma is Pilkington, Japan RAV4 is Nippon (Denso), Canada RAV4 is AGC.

Edit: They always have the glass OEM, in addition to DOT markings, as required by US regulations.

On my 17’ I paid maybe $250 from the local mom and pops place close to my house. I used Yelp to find them and they had great reviews. The service was great and the glass is just as good as the OEM was. Also, the windshield they installed has a GoPro mount, it just doesn’t say GoPro Which doesn’t matter at all to me.

There’s zero chance I’m paying $1400 for a piece of glass I’ll probably have to replace again in a year and I sure as hell ain’t claiming it on my insurance.

Trust me i never thought i would ever pay $1400 for a windshield but now with all the tech this new cars are coming out with i guess this is the new price. My insurance wont go up or be affected by this claim either.
