I like how the side windows pop out so George, Paul, Ringo and John can wave at the crowds as they pass by.

Picture of my old 1992 Geo Metro I purchased for my son to learn to drive a stick shift on.
interesting story behind this car- It was sitting at my work for several years under an old
oak tree. Not running. I finally asked somebody who the car belonged to . So I confronted
the guy and asked him about it . He said he would sell the car. $400. He said it did run.
I went and got a battery for it . Tried to fire it up and was not getting any gas. Fuel pump
in the tank!. So he went and purchased a new fuel pump and installed it ($260) And got it running
for me. I gladly paid the $400 and drove it home. For a car that was sitting for 2 years ,dirty, lots of leaves
but even with 188K miles on it drove and ran like near new. 1000 cc 3 cylinder 5 speed manual.
It was the XFI version with electronic fuel injection. This car got 52 mpg. Yes it took 100 seconds to get to
60 mph. But it would serve the purpose of education. After my son learned to drive it I continued to drive it
and fix it up a bit as seen from this photo. Not long after the car was resold back to the guy I bought it from
for $850. It was a cool little car for sure.

I almost purchased one like it back in 1976. It was a metallic green XR7 2 door white top /green interior.
It had a 351 windsor 2 bbl setup c 6 on the floor. It only had 68 K miles on it. Asking price back then
was $2495. And I thought that was too much for it. I should have bought it. Instead I got the 1972
    Montego GT. Which had issues.

This car is not only rare but also very nice. And you thought Ramblers were old mans cars.
My grandfather had a 4 door hardtop model about this same year (63-64) straight 6 cyl. 3 on the tree.
This version shown is just hot rodded enough to be really cool. Nice to see some one off rides.

I've done five Power Tour Long Hauls over the years, and when you factor in travel to-and-from home it's way more than 1000 miles. We typically saw well north of 2K, and I live "close" to where most of the routes are. Chase vehicles are a relatively new thing, and unless you stick to the exact prescribed route you won't see one. Most folks deviate from the routes a little for side attractions or to avoid traffic. They also tend to focus on the sponsor cars. That said, lots of other participants will stop and help anyone who has issues. You are never on your own for long. Fuel can be an issue if you need higher octane. When you get out in the countryside sometimes the stations don't have anything better than 89, or the alcohol percentages go up. I always took a case of octane booster with me just in case because my car didn't run well without 93-94. The trip itself is whatever you make of it. You can stick with the family crowd with no problem, and lots of guys bring the wife and kids - coolest Dads ever! You can also choose to party with the night crawlers if you prefer. Regardless, everyone is super nice and respectful, and there are always people awake and keeping an eye on the parking lots. Other than the Good Guys shows, you will not see anything bigger...plus this one moves from city to city for a whole week, and trailers are only allowed if you break down. It's exhausting, and it's a blast. As vacations go, it's only as expensive as you make it. When I went with the guys, we stayed in cheap motels, ate junk food, and drank at questionable bars. When we took the WAGs, we stayed in the city centers at nice hotels and made dinner reservations every night. both ways were fun. The only constant cost is fuel.

I'm hoping to do my sixth Long Haul next year once I have my car back and have had some time to shake it down. I need some stickers for my new back glass :) Two of the stops this year are in easy driving distance from my house - Norwalk and National Trail Raceway - so if my car is finished I'll hit one or both of those. It's been pushed out to August due to Covid, and hopefully the Firebird will be back in my garage by then. If not, I'll ride with a buddy or take the bike. Even if you can only hit one of the stops, it's worth it. I have no idea if it will be as big this year or not, but 1000s of cars on the tour plus all the locals was the norm in the past.

Someone say Ohio? High school in Fairborn, college in Dayton, family farm/chapel/cemetery in Gallia county, and I have had the privilege of having met Bob Evans in Rio Grand at his flagship restaurant.

My great-grandfather was on the VA loan board that originally denied him a loan for a pig farm. Thank goodness they changed their minds!

Used to check out drag racing at Kil-kare. No place quite like it.
