400 miles on my 2020 and I can’t find a single weird thing with the transmission

The 2017 AT I test drove could not hold overdrive with the cruise set at 70mph on a flat highway into a headwind. I do mostly highway driving, so not running at 3000rpm every day with the cruise set is important to me.

Just like the guys who bitch incessantly about these trucks need to understand that sometimes the truck just won't fit their needs and move on, so do the guys who make ridiculous "nothing wrong here, I don't know what everyone is bitching about." Glad your experience was better than mine, get over yourself.

When I purchased my 2019 Tacoma I was living in an area with lots of rolling hills on the main highways. It was clearly evident that the transmission was constantly swapping gears and it felt like the torque converter was slipping. I took it to the dealer convinced there was something wrong, I never felt a vehicle handle like this. Now living in an area with very level terrain the truck feels completely different. I rarely drive in any area that causes the transmission to shift gears driving up and down in a hilly area of the highway. If I had purchased the truck in this area I never would have questioned the transmission. Some people may never experience the odd way the transmission shifts depending on how and where the truck is driven.

I’m betting 95% of this is what type of driver you are. I’m not aggressive behind the wheel.

    Ha!

I didn't mean to go all Karen on everyone but it's like holy cow the 3rd gens are 4 years old and we're still on the transmission thing?

It's like having a 4 year old child and mom still wants to tell everyone about her horrible labor.

Maybe but I don't think so. The shifting logic is OK when I'm controlling the pedal it's when I use the ACC that it bothers me. Downshifts way to aggressively and holds that lower gear way to long IMO. This is mostly on the highway between 75-80 mph.

We have a lot of rolling hills here, some with steeper grades. I only notice the transmission issue described above when the truck had super low miles. It also felt of lacking any low end. Well its fine now after accumulating some miles on the odo. I've had new vehicles, but none ever broke in as this one. The change was pretty dramatic.

I never knew that Fords are terrible until I saw one of those Night line, Date line, 20/20, or 60 Minutes type of shows.

    none so far.
Waiting for my 2020. A little relieved to see plenty of people don’t have issues. I will say my fiancé’s 2018 Camry does shift a lot. I notice it, there’s hiccups from time to time as it debates between going back to 1st or 2nd when coming off a slow roll. It’s not the end of the world and I understand it’s only to try and improve fuel economy. I figured the taco would be similar.

10000 miles, best truck I've ever driven.

I'll even add that the cruise control is WORLDS better than the 2nd Gen. The 2G CC would not only kick down 2 gears at the slightest incline but would *keep accelerating* beyond the set speed, up to 5+ over, even after you've crested the hill. None of that in the 3G.
