If you do your own bleeding, here's a bunch of info on bleeding the Guide brakes, specifically slabshaft's post. The thing that seems to have made the difference for me is pushing in on the syringe when closing the bleeding edge fitting. I did this on my wife's bike yesterday and the lever definitely feels less mushy afterwords. After a test ride she said it's biting better and more responsive. I think her bike has Guide T, which does not have the adjuster at the lever, so bleeding is the only way to make adjustments.

I've been running DHF/DHR2 combo, but I've been thinking about swapping out the rear for an Aggressor for the summer. How does it do with the occasional wet ride? Climbing traction compared to the DHR2? Any other rear tires you can compare it to?

I've been thinking the same thing. After a sloppy wet ride yesterday I'm thinking the Minion should stay on through Junuary at least.

More Aggressor love. I'm pretty happy with the DHR2 but wouldn't mind a bit less rolling resistance during the drier months.

I have the same brakes, and after initially being pretty ok with them, I'm starting to find this same thing. When pads are fresh they are good on a fresh bleed, but they seem to get pretty meh as the pads wear. I'm thinking I might try a bleed with a pad spacer (pads still installed) vs the bleed block and see if that helps.

It's a pretty damn big difference. Much more predictable tire, stupid grip in any circumstance. I actually run it in the Grip version, with DD casing on the front. I wish they made the Grip version in EXO+, just to drop a little weight, but I'm not willing to ride the EXO version of Maxxis on anything. The rocks here are numerous and mean.
I've experimented with Cushcores, but find them not worth the weight. I'd rather have overall puncture prevention (tread and sidewall) if I'm going to add that 250 grams.
Current go-to is the Assegai in Grip DoubleDown up front, and the DHRII or Aggressor in DouleDown on the rear. The weight is significant (about 5.5 lbs in tires alone), but I don't really feel it when I'm rolling the Aggressor.

It really depends on what and where you ride. If you ride loose, steep, and fast, you'll LOVE the Assegai. Otherwise, I'd go with the DHF for most anything else.
Casing, I honestly wouldn't ever run EXO. That shit is paper thin, and the feel of Double Down casings is awesome. I run EXO+ on the trail bike though, as I'm riding that slower and in less rocky terrain.

The Codes are an amazing brake. Reliable, powerful, great modulation, easy to bleed. Homerun by SRAM. I've run countless Shimano brakes, and the ALL have the wandering bite point, even the new ones. Some people don't care, it drives me nuts.
Best brake I've ever run, Hayes Dominions. Hands down. Anyone who's ridden my bike has commented on them. They're perfect. Crazy power, crazy smooth, perfectly modulated, and stupid reliable.

Have you read the article I wrote? The place is a gem. So many people like to hate on it though, I think they're insane. The flow lines are incredible, and they have plenty of natural stuff too. I'd definitely go back, and hit Saalbach (Loegang) again too. Both places have deal where staying in a local Air BnB or the like will give you free access to the lifts. The nightly rate was $65, in town, free lifts, free access to all sorts of other things too. Crazy fun vibe.

Again? Isn’t that the fourth bike now? Sounds like that’s the bike shop to steer clear of.

yeah I think I remember seeing what you were thinking of.

this one isn't the bike shops fault, it seems like FedEx. He ordered an out of stock color from Specialized and FedEx is now reporting it as lost...how tf that happens with a bike idk lol

I don’t know about the latest Shimano brakes, but the last few versions (2018 vintage) drove me and several friends batshit with their menstrual cycle (bleed monthly) as they get wear and tear. SRAM has quirks, but nothing compared the the Shimano brakes in my experience. Guide and Code RSC’s have been solid.

I had the Guide RSCs on my Niner, they were just ok. But the newer Shimano stuff has been great for me, knock on wood.

    not enough.
sounds like a bleed is in order. after you close the caliper side port, give the syringes a bit of a push to pressurize the system a bit more. should help a bit. :)

I'm gonna do the reach adjust first and see if that helps out, then I'll do a bleed if it doesn't.

the reach adjust will change wher ethe lever is, it won't change the bite points or the "mushy" feel or the end point of full stop. but it could help with how things feel on your bike. pad adjust will make a difference if you have that.

I almost went to Saalbach 2 years ago in the week before I was supposed to meet some friends in Munich for Oktoberfest, but it was closing weekend and the logistics just didn't work. I was bummed. But one of these days I'll get to it.

A buddy did a work trip to Ireland and Wales right before the covid lockdown and said the trails there were otherworldly, but you had better love mud and muck to appreciate them. Seeing the stuff they dealt with in "Tea & Biscuits", its amazing the muck they can ride in.

I've adjusted none of it....so gonna start small and work my way up haha! Like I posted earlier, they work great...and maybe it's just how they are, it's not hard to pull the lever back and stop...just feels like a farther pull than I want
