Right down the hill from you in Cranford.

And I say Union County is central jersey too. Wikipedia says so too. So we're clearly right. :crapstorm:

Had some fun in Bald Eagle SF over the weekend, first time out there. Definitely did not disappoint. Heavy rain the day before made it all that more interesting.

There’s 172 miles of parkway that stretch southern tip all the way north. Central = center or middle so cut that in half and ya got 86. Given some distance around mile 86 and you got “central Jersey”. Mathematically Wikipedia is wrong :D

Bald Eagle is def a cool place to explore and camp. Nothing hard but can't beat the scenery.

Payments, stock rig, and solo = Taking it fairly easy until I get more experience, real recovery gear, upgrades and someone to pull me out.

The hardest part was not being able to see underneath the water lol makes it more mysterious.

Definitely loved the scenery and atmosphere of exploring. I did not realize how bad I needed to get away from everything. Charged the batteries up as they say.

Does anyone know of places around there (or anywhere) that allow dispersed camping without permits? That also has interesting "trails" to explore in the truck. Maybe the other state parks/forests around BESF?

So I have about 4 or 5 vehicles at work that I want to paint and clean up the steel flat beds on while we have the downtime. I’ve never really done anything like it so I was wondering if any of you guys have some tips on best practices or what to do. I’m pretty handy but I’ve never really tackled a project like this before.

R u planning on painting the whole bed or just the sides?
We had 2 old dump trucks here at work that had some serious rust, holes I had to patch and these trucks get abused. So I sanded patched and HURCULINERD the outside of the beds. Came out nice from what they looked like.

unfortunately any actual, legal, dispersed camping youre looking at about a 5 hour plus ride give or take in any direction. Nj, Pa, Ny are all extremely lacking as far as free/dispersed camping goes, unless of course camping at a truck stop or Walmart appeals to you lol

I’m sure there is but not sure on legality. I always feel comfy camping in NF when you find a spot (no signs) with a rock ring. Never had an issue doing so with rangers. There’s def spots in Pa, NJ, NY that you can camp but there’s always the thought “is it ok to camp here”. I know Adirondacks have good dispersed camping, as well as Vermont. Personally don’t really go into Pa for the camping..

Solo always adds to the thrill no matter the setup of the truck. I enjoy it just as much as group rides. Like said your best bet is to head north to Vermont or south to Virginia. That is where you’ll find the best trail and camp combo.

I just got this app, and its pretty cool so far. Haven't upgraded to the pay version, but I plan to. It has trails and the option to track where you went. You can also filter for the trail that you want

    i also use www.freecampsites.net

Big fan of FCS. That’s how we mainly went cross country and back avoiding campgrounds.
I’ll have to check out the app. Tho I’m not a tech guy and recently been interested in bringing back paper maps
