Howdy! Another long day of school today, Cold sandwich for dinner. I can't complain, I'm enjoying school, something different.

 

We can't have that many left either if we even have any and the number of WWII is going downhill rapidly, too.

The local newspaper here does a "meet a veteran" column once a week. They do a nice write up on a WW II vet every week. They are all mostly in their 80's now I think.

the local news channel in my city here does an interview with a vet every night. let them talk about their experiences or what ever they like. they tell you a lil about them, like when they enlisted, how old they were, how much training they got.

the guy tonight was put in a regiment sent to northern germany. their average life expectancy was 30 mins in their regiment

 

Just did a quick google search, came up with 4 WW I vets left in the world, only 1 from the U.S.

That's cool.... was watching a news blurb about the veterans going to Belguim (I'm not much good on the war stuff) for the wreath laying every year and how the number of veterans drops dramatically every year due to health issues, etc...

 

I like that and to the 30 min.

Well, there are 4 (according to the site I looked at) but the 4th guy -- Listed here are those who joined the armed services after the Armistice date, but before the Treaty of Versailles; or where there is debate on their join-date; or whose military service is sometimes viewed as outside the scope of World War I, but are considered World War I-era veterans by the press or by their respective governments; or who served in a related conflict

 

it was kinda neat. he said something like oh we never thought about how long we were meant to live...... we were just having fun

thought that was an interesting point
