I have a single tire on my tacoma with 36k on it. The rear passenger wheel will not balance and it makes a vibration when driving. Dealership is recommending buying 1 tire. I’m not sure how much mileage is actually on the tires because i bought the truck used. Should i buy a whole new set or just the one?

How many miles have you put on the truck since buying it? And what exactly are you asking?

Depending on the condition of the other 3 tires I too would suggest getting all 4 done. Also, looks like you have a 2014, so you want the 2nd gen forum.

Under your name it says "2014 tacoma sr", you might want to change that so we know better how to help you.

Oh oops. Yeah must have not typed it correctly for some reason. Odd. I’ll try to fix it on my phone if I’m able to

If you can afford to do it, get all 4 and start fresh. If not, do what you gotta do.

I’d have to imagine that he is asking for community thoughts on replacing one tire instead of a set. There is a spec for this. It would be measured as a difference in overall diameter or a difference in tread depth in 32nds of an inch assuming the exact same specs for the new tire as the others. I believe the spec is somewhere around 4/32nds. Personally I would just replace all 4 tires with new.

If you can swing all 4, I recommend that. You could look into replacing 2 and running them in pairs. You may run into some 4x4 activation issues with the different tire sizes due to tread wear. I had a blow out with a tire while all were heavily used and I ran a single new tires until all 4 where replaced and the truck had trouble getting in and out of 4x4 until they were replaced.

I would look for three more worn-out, out-of-round tires to balance the truck out. A lot cheaper than all new rubber.

FYI I was previously able to find a single tire on eBay that had identical tread depth to my others when I lost a tire previously on another vehicle.
