O okay. But it does have a ceramic tint on it. You can still notice it.

They can order it from a dealer and put it in, they will likely mark up the price from the dealer though since they make profit on the glass but you can surely ask for OEM glass.

Something else that i wonder is. Can you cancel the appointment with safelite and do the claim with the dealership?

I dont see why not, it would be rude to cancel the appointment if it was the same day in my opinion. Be aware that the dealer will outsource the job to a glass company but you wont need to worry about not getting OEM glass.

You can pick any company to do your glass. The ins. company just uses Safelite because it’s WAAAAAAY easier for them to wash their hands of it. I’ve battled to get Toyota glass in my ‘13 and got it w/ in 2 years of purchase. After that you can get “OEM” over whatever shit Safelite uses but you must request it. I’d recommend just going w/ an independent glass company that will get you the “OEM”. They’ll handle your ins. company. Tell Safelite to go fly a kite. They’re awful, barely know shit about fuck and are paid based on the volume of replacements they do a day.

Just did mine through a local independent; not one of the big boys. Safelite can be hit/miss. You might get the guy that knows his stuff. You might get the guy that's been doing it 4 weeks and has never done a tacoma.

My insurance (Farmers) refused to use OEM glass even with me paying the $500 deductible. OEM glass was all in at around $1000. Pilkington was at ~$500.

They reuse your camera. I didn't get the GoPro branded mount, but it's just as functional. Had I thought about it, I would have asked if it came pre-mounted or if they mounted it. If the latter, I might have had them mount it slightly differently.

I ended up going with Pilkington and paid my $500 deductible. Total cost ended up closer to $700 because she forgot the calibration cost. Bye-bye Farmers....

Im just going to call toyota and cancel with safelite if i can tomorrow. Just don't want to run into issues with the camera BS. Since i get asked about the pro grill and the tss all the time and how they cant fix it because the truck didn't come with the pro grill.

No anger at all. Just laying it out there. Safelight glass, not the “OEM” equivalent you must request, is just plain bad. It’s thin, has little QC and is monopolized by most ins. companies due to their margins.

Coupled with being readily available all across the US, installed by underpaid techs. that lack training or expertise in their field, are overworked, non-benefitted or unionized and you get a corporate machine that takes no pride in their product.

It’s a “fuck you pay me” approach to doing business that your insurance company insists is “the way”.

If I pay for a service, say insurance for my vehicle then I pay a “premium”. If that service I pay for doesn’t meet the standards of what I or others deem to be of nominal value then I insist that those standards are to be met. If not then the “consideration” paid for the contract of the insurance is no longer met. The terms are broken.

You don’t “get what you pay for” in the realm of insurance. You get the exact provisions you sign up for, and if you end up getting screwed in the end it’s your fault. (Not you specifically OP, I’m speaking generally).

From dealing with reprogramming the tss stuff after windshield replacement (YOU WILL HAVE TO DO THIS) I can say aftermarket windshields have proven to be problematic for the camera. The only ones that are find are the oe manufacturer for Toyota (you can tell which ones they are because it’s the same stamp, but just put a black bar over the Toyota on the stamp)

som aftermarkets will calibrate. most do not.

That is why I want to go to toyota so i dont run into some BS when the camera has issues. If i have toyota do it i think I can go in and say here fix it for free because you did the work and fucked up.

A windshield replacement affects the forward facing TSS camera. That camera is used in part for radar cruise control, lane departure, collision avoidance, and automatic high beams. Variance in glass, distortion, transmissivity, field of view, may cause malfunctions in those systems.

Just replaced mine in my 2020 Limited (caught a rock @ 5k miles). I was surprised that this windshield was only about $765 to replace AND it came with a GoPro mount even tho the original did not have one. I replaced the windshield on my '16 Sport when I had it and it was just over $1k, so I assumed this one would be even more on account of the sensors needing to be calibrated at the dealership as well.
