Gifted Bilstein 6112, not sure what I need from here.

Recently gifted Bilstein 6112's w/ coilovers for my truck. I understand this provides a 2 inch lift.
I was told I should buy 5160 for the rear so I have a relative even lift.

What else do I need? UCA's? Add a leaf? I wish to have all the required parts before I take it in for installation.

Just an AAL or rear block. You don't necessarily need 5160's you could go 5100s in the rear w/out the remote resi. If you go less than 3'' UCAs arent necessary for a decent alignment.

 

UCAs aren’t needed if you stay under 2”, but I would get them for peace of mind. AAL will left the rear and the 5160 is a great option to pair with the 6112. If you plan on adding armor or weight in the back, go for a full leaf pack over an AAL.

Needle bearing is hit or miss, some guys need it some guys don't, Chitown4x4 told me it was a load of cr*p and not to bother (lots of experience with yota builds), I never needed it on my 11, 15 or 19, but if you're in there, the piece of mind may be worth it. UCAs aren't really piece of mind just a waste at under 3'', as the stock UCAs are well built and you can get a decent alignment within spec at that height. Anything at 3'' or above I would agree that UCAs are a must, you can go without, but truck will handle like sh*t. Of course if you are wheeling hard than UCAs are great, but for most under 3'' is just wasted money. Good call on the full leaf pack with armor / additional weight.

 

Im not running much weight in the back, couple surfboards and some camping equipment, maybe 300 pounds total, and thats once in a while. Should I go for the full leaf pack or stick to the aal? Also, I was told that air bags would be recommended? Im not sure what for.

 

No on the airbags and I'd stick to just an AAL, I had 2 dirt bikes and gear in mine with just an AAL every weekend no problems.

 

An AAL should suffice based on that. Main reason for a full leaf pack is usually because people keep a loaded bed or an bed rack RTT or both so the extra support is necessary.

Air bags are typically towing related so I'd say you'll be good without them

Yep thats a good one. I ran a deaver with no problems in all 3 trucks. Make sure you get the extended ubolts.

 

Yep that's good man, will totally work for you. now hurry up and buy it before the expo guys come in here and tell you you need full Kings because they haul their overland cooler in their beds 3x a year

 

if you got 6112 for free, just skip the AAL and throw the arb leaf pack in there... its worth the few bucks since you already are ahead of the game and they are the proper complement to those nice 6112

Yep, gotten worse it seems with the 3rd gen crowd, all these first time truck / tuner car guys dropping crazy money on setups they don't really need to be IG worthy, nice builds though.

Not familar with those leafs or difference, couldnt figure out myself, hopefully someone can chime in. Ubolts are correct!

 

I would get the new @HeadStrong Off-Road 3 leaf AAL. No cutting/modification to your existing pack needed. If this was available when I did mine I would have gone this route instead of cutting the rivet/bracket off the stock pack. The 3 leaf AAL is said to ride better than the single leaf AAL. I have the 6112/5160 setup with the 3 leaf and love it.

Just to throw my .02 in here, OP should probably also think about what kind of ride quality he wants before deciding on his rear upgrade.
Going from a stock leaf pack, the add-a-leaf is going to stiffen up the ride some, and a Dakar pack with no extra weight is way too stiff for many. Ask me how I know.
If he wants to keep the relatively cushy stock ride, he'll be better off with a Deaver or custom leaf pack that gives him the ride height he wants, and then tailor his rear shocks to that set-up.

 

When you say a Deaver, is that the single add a leaf?

 

No. Full replacement leaf pack. I don't know what's available for a 2020. That's like the future.
