Recently, I had my 2020 TRD Pro Tacoma 6MT squeaky clutch in for service. As many other Taco MT owners report even 3 Gen MT still has the problem. On the first visit to dealership told me I'd just have to live with it. I came back the next morning better prepared with latest TSB on the clutch. They fixed it however the free travel between spring resistance was like 100 mm then this morning they told me Level 3 Tech had installed it incorrectly. So back again this morning & they gave it back to me indicating clutch was fixed only to still have alot of free travel before you meet resistance. I asked the service manager if this was normal & they could not answer the question. My old clutch had very little free pedal play & now I'm stuck with it. Does anyone else have the same experience? Also they told me synchro mesh is defective causing gears to grind between 2/3/4 & 56ok. Good grief so now we wait again for remix. Any comments greatly appreciated.

Is the clutch even disengaging fully?

The free play adjustment is very simple and documented in the Service Manual that we pass around here:
    https://drive.google.com/file/d/1cx5nnlnCzlhI45D1vbBMj1ni983SKdKf/view?usp=sharing

Also, if you think the shifts are inconsistent and causing your problems, you might consider the accumulator delete:

I'm unfamiliar with the squeaky clutch issue--from reading OP, this deals with the pedal itself?

Yes. The return spring and pivots will squeak. Disc brake grease fixes it up.

The pedal may also click, which can be from too much free play.

Ah ok. I've always heard (what I assume is) the little engagement sound when rolling forward from a stop, but nothing squeaky.

The friction plate has drive cushion springs that can sometimes clack when unloaded. Sometimes, the plate will make a noise when disengaged.

But yeah, most all of the reported clutch noises are from the pedal itself.

Makes a ton of sense! Of course, perusing the forums and seeing something with clutch in the title, my heart starts skipping a beat lol

Dealership replaced pedal, cylinder assemblymaster, hose clutch reservoir & bushing . There is still huge amount of free play in clutch pedal before you meet any resistance. Original clutch had no free play

Always! But at this point, any trouble would be out of pocket for me. That mod bug though . . . :D Freakin' TW.

Yes. I got that from your post. What I am saying is that the free play is easy to set at home. Some (most) things just are not worth wasting time and frustration at the dealer. You could do the adjustment in the time that it would probably take you to just drive there?

I had the same issue after I got my 2018 back from having the clutch cylinder replaced for the creak. At first I just lived with it, then it got worse and worse to the point where 1/3 of the clutch pedal travel was with zero resistance. Turns out the dummy who replaced the cylinder forgot to tighten the adjustment nuts on the free play, sounds like both our techs failed to grab the last page off the printer. Follow Tonered's link above to adjust, very very simple to do. I would also recommend the accumulator delete mod, and while I don't consider myself very much of a stick-shift purist, it definitely makes the driving experience nicer.

Can you describe the shifting experience after deleting the accumulator?

Tbh if you're absolutely fine with how it shifts now, don't touch it, it's just that most people who have the manual find the shifting clunky. If you think it's buttery smooth and wonderful, far be it from anybody on here to tell you that's wrong

It's definitely clunkier than I was used to but it's been mostly fine. Weirdly enough, my biggest "issues" have been how they handle reverse. I prefer a collar lockout.

Update: Toyota dealership called me this morning & said they have to replace the entire transmission due to syncizers are ka put & they said clutch travel is supposed to be 7 inches from the firewall which is the factory setting. Should I dump the truck of keep it 1500 miles Good grief just one of those days.
