Why isn't the Tacoma's suspension level?

    Anyone know why Toyota designed the Tacoma's suspension lower in the front compared to the back? Seems to me that one of the first mods needed on these trucks is a leveling kit.

    Can anyone offer any insight?

    most trucks are set up this way so that when hauling loads there is still enough weight on the front wheels for traction and turning.

    Actually, a truck is meant to be loaded with weight in the box, so when it is fully loaded, would you prefer it to look level, or would you prefer it to be an ass dragger?

    No... The "rake" stance is a defining feature of a vehicle that more then often has weight added to the rear suspension. The suspension needs to be stiffer to support this weight. This in turn results in the rear of the body being higher than the front.

    I know physics is hard, but :smack:

    I figured it was something along those lines. I've owned '84, '90, and 94 toyota 4x4 pickups. My new Tacoma is the first one with a noticable the inclined stance. My 84 would sit-down severely when under-load.

    When a truck is "leveled out" unless your useing airbags or a pretty stiff rear leaf pack your headlights will be pointing up towards the sky when hauling or towing heavy loads.

    the answer is a two parter
    1- it is for mostly better handling on the street, (imo the trd off road should be lvl)
