like I said, if the green wire from the switch is going to the same pain that is going to the battery then you will need to disconnect it and tap into an accessory power otherwise you'll be able to turn the light on even if the truck is off. your diagram shows exactly what I'm talking about and will not work the way you have described you wanted to without modification

 

if the light is functioning properly and your only problem is that it can turn on anytime, you only need to relocate the one wire and stop worrying about the rest. Trust me

 

At the relay, this white wire is going to the green one at the switch and red to battery. So I need to disconnect that from the relay plug and then wire it to the add a tap to the tail light or something?

 

Completely ignore the relay. Put it down. Stop touching it. Go to the switch, cut the green wire and cap off the one coming from the relay. Tie in an add a fuse in your fuse box to the green wire using a circuit that is on accessory power. There are multiple. this will make it so your switch can only activate the relay when the truck has power and the ignition is in accessory or run. Your lights will still be drawing power directly from the battery though which is what you want. all of this is on the premise that the way it is currently wired it turns on and off with the switch properly and you're just trying to get it to work only when you have the truck turned on
