Trying to figure out why MSRP keeps coming up on a Used Truck, why are they asking a "New" price?

Because dealerships are sharks. They know to most buyers this truck or anything the current MY with that low of miles is all but new. It's a way to try to drive that point. It is nearly new except that someone else owned it and they titled l it and drove it before you. They farted in the seats and all maybe eat and smoked in it who knows. That's worth less than new to me.

On the other hand if you like it and can get a good deal go for it save a few $. The other thing is it's so new most credit unions will finance that as new since it the current MY and under 10,000 to 15,000 miles.

Right, to me that is just flat out sneaky AF! The suggested new price should not even be in the discussion during the purchase of a Used vehicle. Many times you will see it mentioned on a few years old luxury car where they say the original price was 100K and now you can have it for the "so called" bargain of 30K, lol.

That is the exact mentality I'm talking about. They just do that to add the idea of value and a great deal.

Find it fascinating when you're in the finance office and they're talking about gap insurance and the value of the truck when rolling off the lot and then they somehow forget about that same conversation when they're selling low miles, same MY used as "like new."

I would look at new. I know in my area this same truck goes for about 37-38 new. Even if you spend a grand or two more on a new one, payments will most likely be about the same. In my experience, i always get a better interest rate when buying new. But for me, I look at the monthly payment. Not the total price as much. I gave 35.5 for mine brand new in 2019. Its a 2019 model. Its the TRD Off Road but not the premium interior package. Just my 2 cents. I would say if you can get them to 35. I would go for it if everything checked out.

Don’t forget to think about how low inventory is right now as well. Given the state of the union I Tend to be on the opposite viewpoint of the above posters because it’s hard to find what you want..

Granted I did something similar to you and bought a vehicle with only 3000 miles… Sketchy? Maybe to some because why would you trade in the truck with 3000 miles… However I think many people make impulse decisions and end up buying something they actually don’t use because they got talked into it by a sneaky dealer… Or their life situation changed… or the truck wasn’t what they needed. maybe corona put a strain on finances and they needed to bail? Mine the guy decided that he just liked the way a fully loaded GMC drove better… in the dealership gave me no reason to believe they were lying to me .With 3000 miles on it I was willing to test drive it and look it over to see if that checked out or if the guy had just rallied it and then traded it in. I’m a little bit more hesitant in your situation given that it’s not certified preowned and even if you did think of it as a percent off of MSRP… Which I would personally Do just because it does only have a few thousand miles on it and it is still a 2020 to compare to the new Tacoma‘s you were still only getting about 12% off of MSRP of what the truck sold for when it was brand new ....given that you can get better than that on a brand new truck with 0 miles you could probably do better given a normal economy… But .... this is Covid season the plants have been shut down for a long time. And inventory is pretty scarce at most dealerships… Even the big boys that I was able to get 15% off of MSRP with the rebate on a brand new off-road wouldn’t be able to do that right now and most of them who have been following with me have said that they couldn’t offer the original offers they made me a month or two ago . And inventory is pretty scarce at most dealerships… Even the big boys that I was able to get 15% off of MSRP with the rebate on a brand new off-road wouldn’t be able to do that right now So is it a good deal? I think you could probably do better on a brand new one percentage wise and get a better rate like others have said, but if it is exactly what you want and you like it and you were saving $7000 why not? Unless you get a sucky interest rate and you end up paying $7000 in interest anyway… then just get a new one..
I was able to get a 2.7% interest rate On a “used “ vehicle so it’s possible. I tend to recommend you look at the overall cost of the loan by using an amortization calculator rather than monthly payment... dealers can make your payment as low as you want but you need to look at what the truck will cost over it’s lifetime. because if you can get a great interest rate you will probably save money by buying a new vehicle… Again though if it’s $7000 cheaper than a brand new 2020 and you get 100,000 mile warranty I think that is a good deal. Keep us posted.

Yeahhh so it had after market leather:bananadead:....unbeknownst to me and the salesman who kept saying “it says right here cloth seats”:notsure: The owner sold because he couldn’t afford the payment anymore. Shouldn’t have blown money on the after market leather which was not Katzskin or anything- not sure it was even real. Felt cheap, hot, and like a button would puncture it. The truck will get sold by the end of this week but unfortunately wasn’t for me :ballchain: Inventory is still extremely scarce as mentioned, they had a total of maybe 7 tacomas. He did say the manufacturers are opening back up so maybe more options soon with better deals. The hunt continues... :pccoffee:

Aftermarket leather? I didn't even know there was such a thing.

Bummer it didn't work out, but keep on looking.

It wasn’t after market my mistake- I just looked at this new 2020 posting and this is the interior it had- pebbled in the center. Is this leather? I’ve felt toyota’s Softex in the 4runners and this is def not softex unless they changed it. Softex feels durable, this feels cheap and weak material wise

Yeah, that's the leather I have. It's fairly thin. Stitching is decent, although I scuffed a tiny bit of it with a freakin' pen cap.

Looks like the same leather seats in my new 2020 Limited. From what I've read, unless I'm mistaken, the premium off road package includes leather heated seats.

confirmed, I looked closer at the specs. “Leather-trimmed seats” for prem off road package. I definitely prefer cloth over that- but wonder why there’s no softex option

Tell them you want to keep it overnight, put 100-200 miles on it and make sure you like it before you consider buying it. Other people can't tell you if you will like it or not.

Toyota dealership? If so, find one used with 5k miles elsewhere. When I bought my 2016 in 2017, it only had 5500 on the clock for $34k at a Mazda dealership. I haggled it down to $31k. Toyota will sell them on their lot used at a new price and every little gimmick possible.

Well if you decide it not for you do what I'm doing. Wait on inventory to come back and continue to save money for your down payment if you currently don't have a payment.

I assume I can’t get cloth seats with the trd premium off road package- so cloth with no moonroof or leather with moonroof:confused:
