I have a 2011 double cab short bed Tacoma SR5 4x4. All stock.
Right now i have p245/74r16 tires.
I have heard you can get up to 33" diameter tires with the stock shocks.
    Is this true?
If so, can i get like 275/74r16 tires without having to worry?
I am looking into different ways of just getting a few more inches of clearance before looking into a lift kit.

    False.

How much are you willing to cut out of your cab mounts and fenders? Backspacing of the wheel and your alignment, among other factors, will dictate how much you need to cut but you can definitely fit 285/75/16s.

OH we are giving stupid answers to obvious questions? OP you can run 40"s. Just need to SAS and get some full widths with some spacers. Recommend 14 bolt and Dana 60

Dude isn't ready for a lift and you are trying to get him to get out the cutting wheel for a CMC. o_O

Yes that's exactly what I am suggesting and I will tell you why it's actually not a stupid response.

OP asked specifically about 33" tires, which is the question I answered.

Just because he isnt ready for a lift, which costs money, doesnt mean he isnt ready for a CMC, which costs nothing but your time. Some people are willing to cut some arent, which why I asked the OP how much he was willing to cut.

Stick with what you're comfortable with then, but honestly there's not much to it if you want to go to a 33. Grab an angle grinder, take off about 1/4 inch of the cab mount, see if it rubs, cut more if you need to. The large majority of folks will have someone weld plates on, but I never did. There's a pinch weld you may also need to flatten. I cut into the pinch weld every 3-4 inches and beat it with a hammer.

You can see roughly where I cut mine for the 33s. Betcha if you introduced yourself and asked nicely in a local thread, you could get someone to help you with it or watch over your shoulder so you don't make any mistakes.

I've been running 265/75/16, and now a 265/70/17 for years. Both are a 31.7" tire. Completely stock, 150k mile suspension. Under normal driving conditions, I've not rubbed anything. I am running non-factory front mud flaps, but they are about the same form factor as the stock ones.

Don't get me wrong, it is a tight fit, but no rubbing at full lock on mine. Again, that's normal driving. My truck doesn't see any off-roading, or anything that would really stress it. YMMV.

I would not go any larger without a lift.

BFG 265/70R17 All-Terrain T/A KO2 on MotoMetal MO951 I haven't touched my suspension at all, fully stock. Tried to keep the overall wheel diameter similar to what came off the line because I didn't want cut up the fenders, and wanted to minimize any rub. Very slight rub at full-stop left and right (mostly pulling out of parking spots) but nothing I can't live with. It's sort of rubbed a nice channel after 140k miles... combined with increasingly worn tire tread and I don't even hear/feel it anymore. Absolutely love the tires; they've handled every condition you could imagine.
