Just discovered a major power steering fluid leak. I think it is a line rusted completely through. Poured in new fluid, started truck and it came out immediately. Extreme rust where I live so I don't want to tackle this in driveway. My question, how can i limp my truck to the toyota dealer that is about 20 mins drive away?

    Thanks

Locate the leak and duct tape should get you there

If it’s on the return side....Maybe....maybe.
But if it’s on the pressure side, it ain’t going to happen.

The issue is, you run the risk of damaging the pump if it runs dry.

There’s probably a way, like bypass the rack. But you’d need to feed the supply back to the pump.

Maybe @Muddinfun can come up with a “get you there” fix?

Completly agree If it’s on the pressure side there’s not much at home stuff you can really do to temporarily fix it there’s something like 100psi of force in there I would say just order the part and swap it out your self because finding a temporary fix will probably take as long anyway

The only thing that comes to mind would maybe be some sort of tube leak clamp but that would probably require a trip to the hardware store anyway

Must be the pressure side because it came out super fast :(

Where I live, I am going to need a tow truck or a temporary fix to get it to the dealership. I will probably be waiting 4-6 weeks fo a part to be delivered and everything is coated in rust, not a driveway do it yourself job.

Check with your insurance and see if you have towing insurance on your policy. If not, add it, wait a few days and then have it towed. Most insurance companies won't allow you to use your towing insurance for the 1st 24 hours after you add it.

As for the leak, it could be the pressure hose steel tube rusted through. If so, it's not too bad of a job to change the pressure and return hoses. OEM is about $300 for the hoses. Napa is about $80. I put the Napa ones on my truck and they worked great.

It could also be the steel transfer lines on the rack. If that's the case, you need a new rack. $$$$
