What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Spent most of the day getting the rear corner, lower side of my bed straightened out. It wasn't much of a bend, just looked like the PO had gotten against a tree. But that corner is almost completely blocked off with bracing. I was working with hammer and dollies, but no spoons. About half way through, I would have sold my soul for someone to weld some pins on and use a slide hammer. In the end, I got it reasonably close, enough, to give it a skim of bondo and call it good. Funny thing is that for the most part this area is hidden by the wrap around on my NWTI bumper.

 

I feel like 70% of the time after I work on my 3rz, I end up with a high idle after.
So far it's been due to vacuum lines and my throttle body. I went a little too gung-ho when I cleaned the throttle body one time and cleaned away that coating on either side of the butterfly valve which allowed too much air to escape by. Remedied that by buying a used throttle body off ebay.

Yeah I specifically didn't clean the throttle body, hoping to avoid this. All my vacuum lines are new and in the right place, so I'm thinking I washed some crud into the IAC. Easy enough fix.

 

First step in the spindle rebuild project.

 

cleaned my maf, new air filter, replaced some cracked vacuum lines, and then tried to solve the weird rattle i have at low RPMS. I thought the heat shield might just be loose or cracked, but then all the bolts sheared off when i went to try and take the heat shield off. Turns out my exhaust manifold has a huge crack in it! I suspect that is what is causing noise when my rpms drop. Oh well, I guess I HAVE to get some LCE headers I had been eyeing.

 

yup... that'll cause a rattle like noise.

time for some 01-04 mini headers or w/e they call them (better design)

I should have pulled the fender when I did mine. I have a bunch of broken clips and stuff that rattle like crazy, would have been a good time to freshen it up. Plus, I peeled mine back too far when installing the ditch brackets and have a beautiful panel gap between the hood and drivers fender. Can almost fit my finger in it lol.

 

B-R is power from the ignition circuit AM2 fuse
BR is ground
It's on the same circuit as the ignition coils

Ouch man, that is horrible. Yeah they are kind of a pain to install but I really like where the light ends up.

Speaking of a while you're in there situation again... replacing my steering rack and I've been wanting to add a power steering cooler. So seems how I have it all disconnected and drained with the steering rack off, why not get one installed. Arrived from the Amazon overlords today. Gonna install it this evening after work hopefully!


crawling around the AZ desert soon and hope this will help keep my components safe cause the shit that came out smelled like death and could tell it had gotten warm. Smelled burned/hot or whatever.

 

Told the wife wanted to buy another Tacoma. She wasn’t happy and said I need to pay what I owed for mine . So I payed it off Today! Title is in the mail. I told here I paid it off and she’s still red hot about it. Maybe I have a crunchy taco problem.

 

What have you had to do to keep her running so well for so long? That's quite an achievement.

 

O Dam! Nail in tire needed new shoes anyways. loosing the street slicks.

 

Got my 3rd Gen 4runner wheels mounted up and installed! Went white letter out This time so they are a bit dirty right now but you get the idea...
