Milwaukee Tools

Considering picking up the Milwaukee M12 Fuel Installation Drill/Driver kit with the interchangeable heads.

Anyone have feedback (good or bad)

I’ve never used that took but I have a handful of m12 tools that I’ve used extensively and they have been great. I’m not a fan of multi tools since they tend to be okay at several things but typically not great at one thing.

 

Been just over a week so maybe it doesn’t matter anymore but I have both m12 and m18. What’s your intent and goals with them?

 

12v or 18v all depends on how much load your're going to put on the tool. 12v is lighter and produces less torque. 18v while heavier and more torque will run run longer on a battery. I've used a variety of 12v tools for years and never had a problem. As to the switching capability, I'd rather have several dedicated tools than one that tries to do it all. If it's made to be taken apart, that is a potential point of failure.

 

I switched to Milwaukee a few years back for SnapOn and never looked back. I have put all my M12 and M18 tools through hell and they keep on going. The only thing I recommend is staying with the FUEL.

 

Thanks. I just picked up a M12 Fuel drill (chuckless) and impact driver instead of the installation tool.

Will be using for general woodworking/construction projects.

 

I have used many m12 tools to include drill, electric screwdriver, rotary tool, and their inspection camera. All have worked flawlessly for 4 years now and this is with daily use on aircraft. You won’t regret it. My m12 tool experience is making me consider replacing my Dewalt 18v tools with the m18 tools.

 

Do it. The m12 and m18 are both awesome. Also, one thing I love about Milwaukee is that they seem to be on the forefront of innovation. They always have some new 12 or 18 volt tool out.

 

I've used them a few times already and just can't believe the power to weight ratio....simply amazing. My older Porter Cable 18V NICAD is SO big and bulky in comparison. I can easily see adding more M12 tools to the inventory.

 

Used them this week for a kitchen installation. One for drilling and one for screwing. I pieced together a kit with extra 3 amp batteries to keep the slim handle profile in and around cabinets. I'm still on the same battery in each tool since Monday.

 

I freakin LOVE my M12 stuff. You won't be impressed by the ⅜ ratchet, or at least I wasn't but im spoiled by my IR air ratchet.

Get the 4 and 6ah batteries on sale and you'll be impressed. The Sawzall is a mean little shit and the mini circular saw is perfect for 2x lumber and general abuse. Itll rip a sheet of plywood really well with the big battery. Skip the little vacuum, it's as weak as you'd expect. The little led light is great, it has a filtered, warm color.

Northern and home depot run great combo sales every so often. Just jeep an eye out. I love that you can get just the tool too, you don't always have to buy yet another kit.

The m12 sawzall with the cheap blades from harbor freight is a fantastic little bush pruning setup.

 

Ya know, I take that back about the ⅜ ratchet. It's a handy little thing, I shouldn't have tried to run down TJ control arm nuts (22mm) before torquing them off. Aimed a little high, there.

+1 for sticking with the Fuel versions of M12s. They're all brushless. The charge time on the 2.0ah batteries is shorter than the time it takes to kill a battery with anything smaller than the circular saw running constantly.

You can tell the two that catch hell with working on cars, the ⅜ ratchet and light are permanently stained. Brakleen won't clean them whatsoever.

I've got the same Fuel impact driver (center) and the same Fuel drill/screwdriver (upper right).

 

Yeah they are pretty awesome. If you get any of the cutting tools (jig saw, circular, recip), the 4.0 battery, or at least the 3.0 is worth the purchase. I converted to both m12 and m18 about four years ago.

 

I bought the impact driver as kit with charger and 2 amp battery. Then bought the drill/screwdriver as tool only and two 3 amp batteries. I have a canvas satchel that I put them in. Also picked up a drill bit (hex bits) kit and a kit of various heads.

 

I really like the little m12 vac too.



...and yes, that’s 2 m18 drills and impacts.

 

Maybe I'll look for a special on a couple of 6 amp batteries.

Ive has good luck using the shops ID Red for cleaning junk off my tools. I think the key is cleaning tools at the end of each day though. Years of buildup and abuse is hard to reverse.
