This will be my first Toyota after driving a small SUV for year and am wondering how it handles in the snow? Do I need to add weight to the truck bed? Thoughts?

Welcome! Invest in a good set of snow tires depending on where you live. Go out in an open area and learn how it handles under different situations. Brake hard, throw the wheel, test out the 4wd with trac on and off. From my experience, it handles great. I have a set of Blizzaks that do very well under all circumstances. This truck is as capable as any, but snow driving is usually more about the driver than the vehicle. I never had to add any weight, but you could always add some bags or a shell as I do. 4 years in and I haven't had any issues.

Does pretty well, had a hard time trying to purposefully get my off-road to peel out in 3 inches of snow or so.
4x4 is your friend, but may bind up in parking lots.
Weight in the rear can help, tires are most important. Really depends how messy your roads get

Handles great, specially with a good set of tires that aren’t ko2’s

KO2's are snow peak rated, the first 1-2 years they are pretty good in snow and on ice.

I don't like KO2's personally but I can't deny they have better than average winter performance.

Dang son. I bought a set of 4 when I moved to a snow state and had to learn how to manage 360s in an intersection.

Hopefully the weight of the 3rd gen helps...ko2s are on the 1st gen.

On my 3rd set of KO2s, great all round tires. I do have winter tires as well.
Just got 55K miles out of my last set

I still have the factory Goodyear wranglers which now have about 31k on them. Probably had 22-25k on them last winter. I use 2 - 40lb sand tubes in the back and 4x4 when necessary. No problems going skiing at all. Or generally driving in any snow. Take your time. Go drive it in a parking lot at the first snow. Lock up the brakes, try to spin it out. Turn sharp, etc. Just get the feel for it.

My truck responded weirdly in certain types of slush and snow with the Factory Goodyear tires but that went totally away after switching over to the Wildpeaks.

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
Weight in the bed certainly helps. I have a topper and a fairly heavy rubber bed mat in the back most of the year and I'll add three 70 lb sand bags during the winter months in MN. The weight, plus a good set of quality tires, you'll do just fine. If you can afford snow tires, go for it. Otherwise, I highly recommend Michelin LTX MS2 tires. Best all-around tires in my opinion and all I use on both by Tacoma and my wife's Jeep.

Generally speaking "Cars" do not "Go well in snow."

TIRES do, however. it's all about the tire. Invest in a solid set of winter tires and except for initial take-off, that car/truck would do better in 2wd than a 4wd/4x4 truck on all-seasons. Steering and stopping = more important than taking off from a stop, most of the time.

Tires, tires, tires...winter tires!, I'm on factory Wranglers and I got myself stuck the day after I bought the truck...i live in central Alberta up in Canada!, so chances are that any mud tire may not do well on snow!, look for the certification mountain and snow flake on the sidewall.

Ko2s performed well this winter for me. There are better winter tires for sure though, but i prefer to just get 1 set for all 4 seasons.

I love how my Duratracs performed in the winter, so much so that I sold my dedicated winters that came with my truck. No weight in the back, just 4x4 on bad days, no problems, no regrets!

    I think it’s great! Even past a couple Subaru’s that we’re stuck.
