Anyone else want to chime in and tell me that the V8 in question is as fragile as glass? :burp:

    stock, the rods are bad.
the block itself is stout. theres a few 1000+ hp builds out there. The cheap upgrade for moderate boost is to get early 90s 1uz rods and put them in.

Just slapping a turbo on an old Toyota gets you nothing but retarded timing and choo choo noises. You don't hardly gain any benefits of all measly 7psi.

the ECU can be messed with on the VVTI models. power can be made. 400 ft lbs should be doable. and torque is what i'd love to have.

Torque, yeah you'll be building that motor then. People that boost them without building make the timing so conservative it basically lives on Fox news and cracker barrel. Which means, no torque cause that bends baby rods. I've never heard of anyone usig these stock ECUs though, any source on that one, if it had a tunable ECU that would make a tundra almost desirable to raid for swap parts (besides the weak engine). You could use that computer with a built Lexus 1 or 3 uz then, cause none of those much fancier and in some cases newer computers are tunable.

No one really boost stock. Those who do just toss it on and gain nothing. I do know individuals have the binarys and have managed to mess with fuel tables and vvti curves. But it involves some physical modification to the boards. I’ll probably just do long tubes. But the turbo idea keeps crossing my mind and there’s locals that can get the ecu figured out for me.

but most of these engines that get boosted get loads of power and built to the moon. (Surprisingly this engines cheap to build compared to the 5vz or even the 2gr)

Long tubes are the way to go, have one truck that runs at least. Everything is cheaper to build than a 5VZ, building a 5VZ has no point. People that do it are literally in it to find out how far the definition of deminishing returns can go. The 2GR is the exact same, be happy that it's reliable and grunty and take the 12-13psi you can throw at it without touching the internals. The 2UZ should fall in there too cause it's in the uncanny valley for it's class, small V8, weighs too much, too long of a stroke. But you'll be out a lot on the 2UZ 7 psi turbo build just getting the tuning sorted and we all know a hacked stock yota ECU isn't gonna make you happy.

out of all the engines ive messed with (including those shitty hemis) the 2gr is the one that intrigues me the most.. its becoming more popular as it becomes avaible. with sleeved cylinders it will do all you could want while weighing nothing. and they will rev to the moon stock.

I just refuse to use anything but Toyota motors. i like them, even if they lack the aftermarket support. God forbid i ever actually own a honda and build it.. yes it can make tons of power cheap.. but i just cant own a honda. nor nissan. or anything domestic unless its oldschool muscle.

I would love to have a rotary though...
