Has anybody found a cat filer that fits the 4.0L

Can you possibly post a picture of what it loos like on the truck?

 

Sure. I think I get about an extra half quart, not much.

 

here is a pic of the Napa 41515, the same size as the Mobil1 mentioned. Purolator PL30001 and L30001 will fit too. Fram PH8A(same filter as used on old small block Chevys) and Motorcraft FL1A (I think that is the number, same filter as used on older small-block Fords)

 

Any 95 Ford Taurus V6 filter will fit the 3.4L and 4.0L. It’s about an inch longer than the 4.0L Toyota filter.

 

Granted it's been a few years, but I recall the larger NAPA filter I ran being a 1516.

 

So you are saying I wont have anymore half quarts of oil in the cabinet DAMNIT!!

Ok, so no actual benefit to the engine.

 

Your oil will last a little bit longer and maybe a little bit of flow

 

if you want your oil to last longer, I'm betting quality oil and some blackstone testing would do you better than adding 9% capacity.

 

This is common in the VW/Audi world and possibly more brands.
Audi changed their factory designated filter part number on certain vehicles years ago, to a bigger filter that supersedes the previous one. It was probably done to prevent sludge buildup in motors that had a small oil capacity and were hard on their oil due to having a turbo.
So the bigger filters offered more filtration media, longer intervals, and increased how much oil was in the engine. ie 4.3 to 4.7 quarts or something; before/after measurements like that.

I've seen people scour catalogs of other brands (CAT included) to see what they can get to fit onto the filter mount thread, provided it's similar but bigger (idential drain back valve operating pressure spec, and so on).

It seems to be a common mod on diesel pickup trucks too.

180,000 miles / 5000 = 36 oil changes and every one is the m1-209 with standard Mobile 1 5W-30. Truck does not burn any oil and has the same power as it did new. Big deal on the few more $$$. My family has never missed a meal.

 

How does all of that relate to an engine that none of that information relates to?

 

Also Wix 51515, Denso 150-2066, AC Delco PF2. Pretty much any filter with a thread size 3/4-16 and a gasket max OD of 2.8” will fit most Taco V6. And has to have an anti-drain gasket. And I believe these larger filters only fit those with tow package, or have the oil cooler setup.
