Rugers and S&Ws are great entry level rifles. In that same ballpark, I like Del-Ton rifles for an affordable, reliable and basic setup. They also sell upgraded Magpul MOE versions and also mlok free-float railed variations for not much more $$ than their standard setups.
I've bought from Midsouth Shooters Supply, which has good price/selection, and often free delivery. Sign up for their emails and alerts if something's out of stock. I actually got one this morning saying they've restocked a bunch of Del-Ton products.
For an entry level red dot, cant go wrong with a Holosun, Vortex, Sig Romeo, or Primary Arms (in that order of my preference)....
    Have fun!

    WTB... ISO... Seeking advice....
Anyone know of a decent backpack solution to carry an 11.5" AR w/ a law folder? (Overall length folded is 21.5".) It seems most standard backpacks I'm seeing max out around 18"-19" in length.
Specifically, something as small/snug as possible, ideally under $100, and relatively slim & simple that looks greyman/edc or school/work oriented... No molle on the outside, and not black, OD, FDE, camo, etc....
Plan to use it for day hikes, camping (not backpacking) trips, and long drives when going out of town.
    TIA
I'll cross-post this in the AR thread since it's kinda platform-specific...

How much room do you have with the Evo 3? I have a linear comp and folding brace on mine. I have a bag that I modified foe transport, but it isnt a clean look.

My problem is finding a bag long enough to keep the linear comp on.

Thought I'd share my bag I recently picked up. Wanted something that would house guns, ammo, tools and cleaning supplies, etc. But also budget friendly. It's a one stop shop.. making the safe and my office my main storage, and this rifle bag for my shooting/hunting trips that I can easily grab and go along with my chest rig. Safe will be storage and overflow. My backpack is usually with me all the time. It's a 32" dual gun, but also has 2 padded pistol pockets that could easily also fit a sub gun like a mpx-k or evo micro. 3 bungie pockets on the outside are plenty big enough for ammo bags (ordered 4 canvas bags) and other goodies. Rifle section is plenty padded and the center section is removable for a work mat. Material is thick and how it's sewn, seems like it will be very strong and durable. Got it for about 60 bucks shipped from good ol Amazon. They offer it in different sizes too.
