    Hello everyone,
Currently I have my rock lights wired to my dome light. It turns on when I unlock my truck and turns off when I lock it. I want to be able to use a switch to use my rock lights while I drive without having my dome light on in the cab. I have been searching the forums but with no answers. For now, I took my dome light out and use the dome light switch to control the rock lights in either the off, on, or door position. Does anybody know of a way that I can have my rock lights turn on when I unlock my truck but also use my rock lights when I'm driving without the dome light being on in the cab? I need my dome light back LOL thank you!

The Easiest way would be to rewire them and put them on a separate circuit from the dome light.

Get a switch from someplace like ch4x4 if you want an oe look.

You could buy pretty much any aftermarket wiring harness with a relay and be able to adapt it to your needs fairly easily.

Aux back up lights, Bed lights, Re-located trailer plug, Good dooby, a.k.a. jumper cable mod, Heated seats, back up camera,
Get an SPDT switch. Wire the common to the light. The other 2 get fused 12v and the wire from the dome light that was connected to the rock lights.

Edit: you can usually find this switch with a center off function as well.

Thank you for the information. Could you post the links for the material I need? I’m out of my comfort zone for this project with the wiring.

Something like this which includes a switch.
MICTUNING HD+ 12 Gauge LED Light Bar Wiring Harness Kit with 60Amp Relay, 3 Free Fuse, On-off Waterproof Switch Red(2 Lead) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XZ2BSNQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_SaI4EbFDXD77J
but you could also use one of these for a cleaner look depending on if you have any spots not being used

Okay thank you. I actually have a switch like that already so will use that and try to figure this out. So the way you're suggesting I do will let me use the rock lights while driving without the dome light turning on and also being able to have it go on and off when I unlock and lock my truck? I tried using the push button switch before with a spdt switch and it didn't work at least the way I was trying to do it.

There are 2 ways to do it.

The first is with a diode and a aftermarket switch that can handle the amperage that your rock lights require. If you don't know the amperage requirement don't try this method.

    A diode

The second method is more reliable, can use any aftermarket switch, can use any diode, and uses a aftermarket relay. I recommend Bosch, Potter And Brumfield, or DEI relays.

    This is a Bosch relay

EDIT: tag the dome light door switch wire at the dome light and not at an actual dome light door switch.

Look at the switch in this screenshot. The terminal in the middle goes to the light. One of the other 2 connects to the dome light wire. The last connects to a fused 12v adequate for the light. How many watts is the light?

The method above allows the rock lights to come on whenever the dome light is on and whenever the aftermarket switch is on.

This method switches between the dome light circuit OR the aftermarket switch, the aftermarket switch has to be in the appropriate position in order for the rock lights to come on with the dome light.

    Would that mean:

ON - ditch lights come on with Dome
OFF - Dome and rock lights OFF
    ON - Rock lights on

I was explaining two different ways to do it and you're asking about 1 specific way but I have no idea which of the two you're asking about.

Yes, you can wire them up to be On/Off/On however, the Off position shouldn't effect the functionality of your dome light. You would be merely using the dome light power to actuate a relay to turn on the rock lights. The rock lights should get their power from the battery bus and not directly from the dome lights. I hope that makes sense.
